You can do it with Firefox but you have to use the pdf reader built within Firefox. What can't be done is use another Reader like Foxit and open the pdf with this reader while browsing. Like, you click to open the pdf and the pdf is supposed to open with Foxit, opening the pdf like that doesn't work now in W10.

either here, no problem to open pdf temporary with pdf x-change viewer from firefox. either your settings or wrong program :p
could be a special problem with foxit - i consider foxit as "special" because of its history and a deeper understanding of its development until now. and foxit is some kind of snoopy.

Brummelchen, I know you think you know what you talking about, but you don't.

    Read thread below, and learn.

    https://community.sophos.com/products/sandboxie/f/forum/117066/firefox-v71-and-pdf-readers

Note: Now that I remember, as reported by other users in that thread, this same situation that's happening with pdf files is also happening with other files. I also experienced this issue in some instances (it happens when you get the dialogue for choosing between opening or downloading) were you can download a picture but cant view it while running Firefox sandboxed.

    Hi,

true, since (I think) Firefox update to v71 and onwards I can't open downloaded files in FF like before. I have to open the folder where the file was saved (in a sandbox) and open it in Windows Explorer. It's the same for PDF, EXE etc. I'm using Sumatra PDF viewer. Is there a way to fix this problem in Firefox?

It's great to know that Curt's still behind Sandboxie development, but there is no feedback like before, when he was releasing betas which were tested, he received feedback, then next beta, testing etc. I wish it'd be like before, with the support from Barb included... I think I've read somewhere that Ronen should buy Sandboxie back and keep on developing it - I'm up for that. :D

PS: A bit off topic, maybe a stupid quesion but I don't know the answer: I have Windows 10 Pro, and have set Windows Update to "setting 2" in Group Policy editor so that I can download and istall updates when I feel like it. How do i download & install the small updates but NOT the big feature update, is that possible? I'd like all the small updates but to stay on v1903 for a little while more. Thanks.

It takes like 15 seconds to start the stable Microsoft Edge chromium v79.0.309.65 sandboxed (Sandboxie 5.33.1). Unsandboxed almost an instant start.

    And 3 errors:

    SBIE2303 Could not hook CoGetObject (33, 1655)
    SBIE2303 Could not hook RegisterDragDrop (33, 1655)
SBIE2318 DLL initialization failed for 'ole32.dll'

    Win10 1909 build 18363.592 x64

@Bellzemos If you only want security updates on win 10 pro and delay feature updates.

If I explain it myself it just would end as a wall of text so I just post a link. Just use Defer feature updates and choose the amount of time you don't want big "feature" updates. You still will get security updates.

    https://www.ghacks.net/2018/09/27/how-to-delay-feature-updates-in-windows-10/

So im still on 1809 and sandboxie is running fine with the recent firefox (to stay on topic)

Takes 5 seconds here for me to start new Edge with Sbie.
Those 3 errors have been happening for a while on some sites although everything still runs normally.

Bellzemos the update/upgrade from 1903 to 1909 is very small. It gets done quicker than regular updates. It feels more like a tiny regular update than an upgrade. And Sandboxie for al practical purposes works just fine. If 1903 works nice in your computer, very likely 1909 will as well.

I also sometimes get this error, but it happened after I updated to the newest Vivaldi. Seems like it's not a big deal, but hopefully they will be able to fix this. BTW, I'm still using an older version of SBIE, I only update apps when it's truly needed.

OK thanks, looks a bit complex to me. I did ask for this feature on the old SBIE forum, but developers told me that SBIE would need a complete redesign, strangely enough.

Is this the newest Edge version? I wanted to try it, but I'm waiting for full installers, can you find this somewhere? I do know that one of the first Edge beta versions works very smoothly in Sandboxie.

Running the new edge in Sandboxie 533.1 Windows 10 1909.18363.592 and it's working quite well. (Still have win. 7 close at hand though:cool:)

I was thinking last night about installing the new Edge. I was kind of enthused as replacing current Edge would make it at least worth some having this browser installed. Current Edge is worth nothing to me. I only open it to apply updates and make sure it still works after updates. Open one site (Here), move around a few pages, and close it. I read some of you guys reporting it works in SBIE, thats a huge plus and also NoScript can be added. So, having new Edge running under SBIE with NoScript, for me could be a huge gain over current Edge. No brainer (almost).

But before installing it I read some comments that made me hold on. I read that the new installation did not replace the old one. In other words, some users ended up with 2 installations of Edge instead of just the new one. I am willing to install the new Edge if it replaces the old version but having two Edges instead of one, in my view, is worst that just having the old Edge. How did this work for you guys. Did the new Edge install alongside old Edge or did it replace the old one?

I also read a couple of users (and saw a picture) reporting new Tasks created in Task manager for Edge to check for updates every hour. This checks are supposed to take place even if you are not using the browser. To me, that kills it. I certainly don't want that. And tilts the balance in favor of keeping the old one and not moving to the new one. Can you guys confirm about this tasks?

Likely those Sandboxie messages you guys are reporting seeing while running new Edge under SBIE are related to this tasks and the constant checks for updates. The messages don't seem to mean anything bad but I wouldn't feel at ease with constant checks for updates. Can they be stopped? Has someone tried?

I don't know if new Edge checks for updates, at some frequency.
    FWIW ~
I've played with pre-release new Edge since Oct, 2019. I cleaned out pre-release new Edge before clean install release new Edge.

I've read remnants of legacy Edge will be removed when new Edge is pushed thru Windows Update.
I've read when new Edge is pushed thru Windows Update...it'll replace and disable old legacy Edge in your system.
I can only call new Edge.
    png_3909.png png_3910.png
I've read about registry tweak which can force Windows 10 to keep both old and new versions of Microsoft Edge browsers and allow users to run them side-by-side. But this registry tweak must be applied before installing new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge in Windows 10.

Agree with above post by bjm_ Only thing that I can add is try out the new Edge in Sandboxie and test it yourself,if it suits you and you like it, keep it, if not move on. Myself, for me it was an experiment. My go to browser is still going to be Firefox. Take that for what it's worth.

Agree, nice and clear post by bjm. The Sandboxie messages are expected and wouldn't annoy me.

But for me to get enthused into installing new Edge, the new one has to be a replacement for current Edge. I don't like Chrome, period. But like Edge as it is now even less. So, if installing it works as a replacement (one for the other, then its OK). Otherwise, I rather leave things as they are. So, I am very interested in knowing if installing this browser gets rid of the old one. And also, can the check for updates tasks be disabled?. I the answers to this things is yes, that would motivate me into installing the new Edge and learn to live with it.

I haven't disabled the tasks so I cannot tell you if they stay disabled after a reboot.
When you go help..about.. in settings, it checks for updates then anyway.
