LOL, it's almost like Sophos copied my idea, earlier in the thread I said that hopefully Sandboxie would become freeware and perhaps even open source. But now I wonder how this will work out. On some other site I read that perhaps someone will make a fork of it. Can you then make it payware, even if it was open source?

Yes exactly, what I also like is the ability to run multiple versions of browsers on the same system. Windows should have implemented such a feature years ago. And from what I've read, Windows Sandbox is pretty much a joke at the moment.

I know what you mean. I personally don't really update Windows that much, and Sandboxie works just fine with Vivaldi, Opera, Firefox and Edge. I didn't even have to update Sandboxie. On the other hand, I know that new browser versions can give problems, so let's hope SBIE will keep getting updates. But luckily I also don't often update browsers.

I am not sure how this open source thing is going to work out in the long run, I have doubts, but I can assure you that there will be updates in the future. That I know. I wish I had you in front of me because I would bet you about it, take your money and not feel any guilt about it. :)

Yes it does. I'm talking about the latest Edge which is based on Chromium. I haven't tried the newest, but one of the early versions runs just fine. BTW, I have also noticed that portable versions of browsers almost always work, but I do sometimes have problems with installing browsers inside the sandbox.

There are people still using registered versions, right? It would be a disaster to take down the server since that's the case.

Anyway, thats what he told me to tell you guys (whom I quoted). I left this part out, but he also said, "they seem to think they stumbled onto some major issue.LOL."

I decided to tell you because I dont want you mess up your Sandoxie installation by via deleting Sandboxie program files.

Depends on the license Sophos chooses when publishing the source code.

OK cool, thanks for letting me know. Because I can imagine that if certain developers will put much time in developing Sandboxie, they will want to earn some money.

    Hello Bo,

I am not sure what's the conclusion. ;)

I have a lifetime licence (registered and activated) and at the moment I still use version 5.30 (32 bit) (on Windows 7). Is it better to update now (to the free version, 5.31.4 at the moment) or to stay with the registered version?

Hi Peter. Our registered versions are going to die soon. So, eventually we ll have to move on. I am honest, I still haven't upgraded. I have downloaded both installers, the 32 and 64 bits versions (one for my W7 and the other for my W10). As of yet, I haven't installed 5.31.4 in my computers but I feel confident about 5.31.4 since I know Curt developed it. I ll probably do my W7 first.

Since you are in W7, the rush to move up in versions is not that urgent but eventually we are going to have to do it. Perhaps later today, I ll run the 5.31.4 installer in one of my computers, if I do so, I ll be doing it without blinking (with total confidence).

O.k. I see. Thank you, Bo.

Like you, I trust in the latest version 5.31.4. Just wanted to be sure not to do something wrong by installing it too late or too early. ;)

I updated to 5.31.4 (64-bit) a couple days ago. Typical Sandboxie update... smooth as could be.

Had a senior moment change of strategy as I stated previously that I would be sticking with version 5.30; However I decided to give 5.31.4 a try and it installed over 5.30 with nary a problem.

I bought a license in 2013, but have never installed this program. I have just, a short time ago installed v5.30 64 bit, and tried to register my key. But, apparently that option is no longer available, since it is now, free. :argh:

Further update.... I have managed to register it. Apparently, I had entered my key, incorrectly. But, note is [only] registered until Monday, September 14, 2020.

Yeah, the beta is weirdly way more stable than the "stable" build.

Historically that has been the case.

But I think, version 5.31.4 can be considered the stable. I think it is the stable Sandboxie version at this point in time.

it will be the only "stable" and valid build when the activation servers go offline.

When will this be, Brummelchen? I hold onto 5.31.2 beta, it's weathered a lot and held up well. But I guess everyone has to move on en masse pretty soon. I feel like the last one at the party.
