I visited the Sandboxie web site and learned that Sandboxie has been acquired by invincea. Apparently there will still be a free version. I wonder if my lifetime license will still work. Anyway, just though I would share this with anyone interested. Here is the link about the acquisition of Sandboxie: http://www.invincea.com/2013/12/invincea-announces-acquisition-of-sandboxie/

edit: Changed link to correct one. First link was on correct website but wrong url.

I guess I'll be switching to a Mac sooner than I anticipated.

Regardless, I hope that Tzuk gets to truly enjoy the fruits of his hard and dedicated effort over the years. Sandboxie is nonpareil.

I am actually serious. I saw it on the Sandboxie website. It explains the discontinued lifetime license.

Tzuk quoted, but no reference to lifetime licenses.

Great. Another program lost to the corporate world. Hopefully Ronen stays on board and continues to develop it. I'm thinking if he doesn't our beloved sandboxie will get integrated.

Thanks ZeroDay, I was checking their web profile already. What I meant to ask was why some people seem so worried. Is it just because of the normal let downs that can happen in terms of program becoming bloated or buggy or less free etc; or is it a concern about something worse?

I think one concern is that they'll integrate Sandboxie into their own products and stop offering it as a standalone product.

My fear is that Ronen won't continue to develop it and it will get integrated into something else. I hope that it doesn't happen but past practice with things being purchased yields horrible results.

Now this is unexpected. Will have to see what happens before predicting anything.

This is a good thing. Having more support for a security product is a good thing.

Well, for one thing, I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'worried', but perhaps that's speaking strictly for myself.
I don't get worried about software, is my point. ;)
But a great many of us are concerned, for one thing, due to the extreme hands-on approach that tzuk took that will most assuredly fall by the wayside... unless tzuk stays onboard.
Have you ever seen the frequency of beta and stable releases of Sandboxie? Plus the fact that there was never any discernible difference between the betas and the stable edition... those just aren't attributes one experiences with corporate-owned software.

A blanket statement made without regard to numerous exceptions.
    Can you say BOClean, anyone?

I feel your concerns too, that seems all too likely.

Sandboxie's users have been running under Invincea's umbrella the whole year, and just now this comes out. Now tzuk replies, his reply is "more info will come later". That's not encouraging. It seems that – apart from other implementations of the technology – if Sandboxie were to remain as a free standalone app as we know, maybe with just a different brand, we would already know it by now.

You're right, Page42, no-one should get too worried about these things :)
It's just that Sandboxie has always been a very effective, lightweight, no-nonsense tool, and who would like to see that die out?

Waiting to see what happens pretty much takes the predicting out of it, J_L. ;)

One thing we all need to get into our heads (if not there already) is that security is an ever-changing ordeal. Changing tactics becomes a constant after enough time.

I don't think anyone is disputing that. Not just security, practically everything is ever-changing. Now, accepting change is one thing; but enjoying a bad change is another.
