Samsung Developer Conference (SDC 2019) is underway today, and the firm announced two new laptops – the Galaxy Book Ion and Galaxy Book Flex. The Galaxy Book Ion is a traditional clamshell laptop, whereas the Galaxy Book Flex, as the name suggests, is a 2-in-1 convertible with a 360-degree hinge. Both devices come with 13 and 15-inch screen size options and sport QLED displays, something the company claims to be the world’s first on a laptop.

Another noteworthy addition is the inclusion of the company’s Wireless PowerShare feature. This lets users charge their Qi wireless-compatible devices right off the trackpad. The Galaxy S10 and Note10 work in a similar manner, although the devices being charged need to placed on the backs of the handsets. However, the power output of this feature is not known.

As for the internals, both devices come with Intel’s 10thgen Core processors.

From initial impressions, the Galaxy Book Ion and Book Flex look more like portable ultra-books and not some serious gaming/editing machines. The displays, though QLED, are limited to 1080p Full HD resolution on both devices, which might be a let-down.

Back in October, at the Samsung Developer Conference 2019 (SDC19), Samsung announced the new Galaxy Book Flex, a premium 2-in-1 device built as part of Intel’s Project Athena program.

Samsung today announced a more affordable version of Galaxy Book Flex named Galaxy Book Flex alpha. The new Galaxy Book Flex alpha features super-bright 600-nit QLED display and ultra-thin bezel for great viewing experience. It also comes with Active Pen support for inking experience.
The Galaxy Book Flex alpha is powered by 10th gen Intel processors and up to 12GB RAM for great performance.

Samsung Galaxy Book Flex alpha will be available in Royal Silver color in the US in the first half of 2020, starting at $829.99.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Book laptops are now available for purchase in the United States.

All three laptops — the Galaxy Book Flex, Flex Alpha, and Ion — are equipped with the latest 10th Gen chips from Intel. The Flex and Ion are also certified as part of Intel’s Project Athena program. That means if you purchase one of these two models, you should get up to nine hours of battery life, which is ideal if you are a professional working from home or a college student (who will, eventually, be on the go).
The Galaxy Book Flex and Ion were announced back in October, but Samsung did not give a release date outside of “early 2020.” Samsung announced another laptop in the Galaxy Book series, the Galaxy Flex Alpha, at CES 2020.

The lineup includes some intriguing features: they are the first Samsung laptops to use a QLED display, which is the same display technology that the company uses in its high-end flat-screen TVs.

The Galaxy Flex Alpha starts at $849.99 but can go up to $999.99 if you upgrade your internal memory and processor. The Galaxy Book Ion starts at $1,199.99 for a 13.3-inch model, and its 15.6-inch model sells for $1,299.99. The Galaxy Book Flex is priced at $1,349.99 for the 13.3-inch model and 1,399.99 for the 15.6-inch version.
