Since there is a news release with download, I guess that means basically final form, although I know of few programs that do not need some minor adjustment on release of an x.0 version to the public at large. I assume the same will apply here.

    Hi,

Safe'nSec 2.0 could be compared to what other security application? Does it do the same thing than AppDefend + regdefend or PG or Online Armor or something else? Does it do something different from the most known HIPS software?

    Thanks,
    Atomas31

Yup, they're calling this the final release. Like Blue says, though, I'm sure there will be some final tweaks in the beginning.. but then, I'm sure there always will be.

The key is valid for a year, as long as the key is less than a year old, you're current. I had used up all the activations on my key, so I had to request a new key anyway. I assume a 1.1 key with activations left would work fine, but if thats not the case, a simple e-mail to support should get you going.

    Hi Blue and others.

Not quite sure what the deal is. SnS website says 2.0 is commercial, but on their forum, the indicate it is a 2.0 beta. At the bottom it says there will be a free upgrade in about a month.

The 1.1 license doesn't work in 2.0, at least mine didn't. I had to use the 2.0 license.

My read is that it is certainly very close, but it hasn't experienced a lot of field stress testing, you know, the type of thing where the program wants you to enter your age in whole years and you decide to enter your name instead, and stuff like that....

I have also just received confirmation from support that this is NOT a beta.

The version on the main site is a full trial version, which has no limitations, but will need activating after a month ( or as I found out after an uninstall/install).

After this time, present licensed serial numbers should work but if not they will send you a new one.

I've tried version 2 out and it still has the same problem as version 1 which is a very long pause at the logon screen.
I had to uninstall version 1 because of that problem and decided to give version 2 a try and found it's still there.
Does anyone know what could be causing this drag which is about 2 to 3 minutes.
Other than that slowdown, version 2 is awesome and seems very light on the system.

I would suggest emailing support about it, but since it's not a universal problem, I would say, best thing if you want to pursue it is to start peeling off other security apps and see if you can fine the source of the conflict.

Is this product very complicated to actually use by the average person on the street as opposed to guys who are in to security as a hobby? Because reading the online manual would suggest that perhaps it might be.

Complicated is a relative thing. I find it less complicated since
    • Being selective about the items monitored (i.e. specific registry changes vs. any registry change), alerts are less frequent. To me, that equates to less complicated
    • There is context information and reasonable guidance with each alert
    • Like anything, unfamiliar looks complicated, even if it's simple - unfortunately that's also true if genuinely complex.
I believe that the developers have struck a reasonable compromise in creating the basic package, and if you wish to extend the rule set, it appears that complexity can be achieved by any user although I have not tried out the rule portion creation myself yet.

I have to agree w/ Blue. There is a certain amount of intelegence built into this program in the form of white lists to allow access for common programs and things like Windows updates. IMO, it strkes a fair balance between progs like the new Prevx beta and more interactive one's like GSS and Antihook. It's proactive, but not overly proactive, if that makes any sense.
