I have a router firewall now i only need a software firewall for outbound protection.

but as i am a paranoid person could i have a software firewall for inbound protection as well or there wont be any extra protection? as software is updated and hardware u be update u need to buy a new one?

will this cause me no protection for inbound?

You probably won't need to update your router firmware that often, unless there is a known vulnerability.
A software firewall is important for inbound protection even with a router.
Other compromised computers on the LAN could spread the infection to you without a good firewall. Wireless routers especially need one because other computers can connect to your LAN.
If your router is properly set up properly, your software firewall should have no inbound activity.
