According to their site it hasn't been updated since February 28. Hopefully it's not abandonware. :(

Only the installer is old, they update their newsletters quite regularly and I continue receiving daily database update. It would hardly become abandonware.

I noticed that yesterday also. I don't understand why they won't update the installer.

Roboscan & Kingsoft are still my two favorite free programs, at least until I can see what Comodo v6 is like.

Wonder if pricing will change with the branding.

I read they changed the name from ALYac to Roboscan specifically for the US. But in other parts of the world it would stay ALYac.

lol Don't feed them wrong information, trjam.

Roboscan is Alyac, and Alyac is Roboscan (sort of). Roboscan in their name in the North American/english market. In Korea, and elsewhere, they are forever Alyac. The Korean product are a bit different (more compact and beautiful UI) compared to the english freebie. On the bright side, in Korea only the AV is free and the suite is shareware.

Roboscan product is no longer "new" but internally they still are and time is required to work things out. Looking into tests and checking the press center on the website is a better guess than looking at the installer version. If the product works, it may not receive an update anytime soon.

ALYac means "pill" in Korean, which kind of explains the tray icon. But not everyone speaks Korean anyway (plus it is difficult to pronunce). I guess that's why they went ahead and rename their product Roboscan.

I ran ALYac av on my androids for quite a while. If Dr Web Lite fubars or charge I'll put it back on.

I think the penguin? was the icon vs. the pill in Roboscan for Windows PC.
Really like to have the penguin in the tray instead of the pill.

Just uninstalling from Add/Remove Programs or the Start Menu will be sufficient.

Uninstall tools are really only needed when an uninstall of an antivirus fails.

    Dragon1952,

If you wish to use an uninstall program, take a look at RevoUninstaller.... it also allows you to clean the registry afterwards, but you get to pick and choose which entries you want to remove.

    http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/revo_uninstaller_portable

This link gets you to the portable version.

Thanks quanzi. I didn't make the connection. "Medicine" is "yag", so "al yag" or similar makes sense. Do you mean it's difficult to pronounce in Korean properly?

Anyway, if ESET can get way with a product called "Nemocnica na Okraji Disku" or "Hospital at the edge of the disk", ALYac should be comparatively straightforward. ;)

That's what I mean. Up until now I've always pronounced it as a-lee-ac.

I always thought NOD was an acronym for some technical English words (maybe that's why they got away with it easily). Alyac sounds a bit too asian IMO and won't be appealing to western countries.

BTW one thing that surprises me the most about Roboscan is that it manages to be compatible with Windows 8 without any new major releases (the installer is dated from February).

알약 (al-yak) is the correct usage for the word, even though 'ㄱ' vowel can be pronounced with a "g" or "k" sound. :)
