    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

Where can I get the latest free version and how bloated is it after the latest update? If its really bloated can I use the previous version or the current one before the update that ****ed it up? What are the major changes between 08 and 9 and before and after the latest update? Basically what are the cons of using 08 or 09 before this latest update? TIA!

That is the same one I tried. I even turned my computers date up a few months and never did get a pop up about it being expired.

Than my own experience can provide, it is the free version and no "nags" or "license" questions should be showed.

But it's still a "preview version", right? That means its download link should not have worked anymore, right?

I wonder if RISING would eventually find that the link is still working and delete it :(

Not, now since feew days ago it is "final version". It was a "pre-release" version, but I don't know if RISING changed the downloadable file version, but if not, the only action needed is to update it after installation and you'll get the last "stable" version installed free and full functional.

Using Rising Firewall Free Edition 2008 yet here.

However I don't update it (because it will upgrade to 2009 Trial version); to avoid updates temptations I deleted "SmartUp.exe" file... The annoyance is similar to Rising AntiVirus upgrade:

P.S.: Interesting to see curious posts in this forum, how to assail Rising is done: like cann't to deduct Rising software performance, they gather informations about... entertainment affairs between former executives/employees and Rising (in fact such kind of things happens all the time in corporations). It's time to remember also some Microsoft similar affairs...: Link1 - Link2 - Link3

Updated normally. The only thing make me wonder if I'm using the free version is that on the left side of the program, under the "NOTE" session, there's still a "License" note which will open a new page in IE whenever I click on it.

Other than that, no nag screen :D

Yes, my installation shows also a "license" note, because free users haven't a personal license for it. But all the rest is OK :)

I don't think there's a free version of the Firewall. They told me so in support before. This must be one of those 6 month trial or something. Either way I'm using the one posted here and haven't given me problems yet.

    This: "http://rsdownload.rising.com.cn/for_down/rsfree/rfwfree09.exe"
Is the free version of the 2009 firewall, and can not be retrieved from their "home page", but exists and still downloadable.
From their "home page" is available the trial (30 days) version of the 2009 firewall.

Free, free and works so free plus it light on the system resources... I have it with there RAV 2009 (Rising Antivirus) Free with Rising PC Doctor Free (known in China as Rising Internet Security Aid) In RIS 2009 the PC Doctor works together. RIS as animated lion that pops out suppose to let you know how things are on your PC it also plays sound effects. Does wacky things.

RFW 2009 Free (works on all OS versions including server)
(note this is china version but it's in english)

RAV 2009 Free (works on all OS versions including server)
    (usa and hong kong version)

RIS 2009 Free (includes RFW, Account Protection Safe(more like for internet banking, paying bills, game play etc.. and RAV)
(note this is a china version but it's in english)

There is suppose to be RAF (Rising Antivirus Firewall) but I can't seem to find that one. Only seen once yesterday. Ran some test yesterday and then ran SuperAntiSpyware Free and set that to full scan when using the Rising products. The results where clean.

    I found these...

(Rising Kaka Internet assistant also now known as Rising PC Doctor)

Rising PC Doctor is an anti-virus and anti-spyware security assistant. It combines many functions, including scanning and patching of vulnerabilities, system rehabilitation, and security management. The Chinese edition of this product has 80 million users in China, and the name change from a Chinese word that connotes excrement in some Western minds to a more streamlined name of "PC Doctor" is an apt adjustment

    Hi tipstir,

You can post links to the actual Vendors website, where the user can then see exactly what they are downloading and check OS compatibility etc.

I know it was not allowed, but thanks for the Rising FW freeware version. This one (the removed direct download) does not seem to have the 30 trial limitation. I will know within a month

I am currently using RFW Free, along with Rising PC Doctor.
There are links to RFW Free. Just Google them, or try to search some threads here in Wilders that provide the direct links (that's how I was able to find out about the free versions).

BTW, you do NOT need to use RFW with RIS. RIS already has the FW integrated in the program.

Well you can't use both with RIS 2009 it would tell you to remove RFW and RAV first before it could be installed. Rising said it can be use on server. I going to pull out RAV/RFW and use RIS 2009 Free on Server box. It did a very good job RAV 2009 Free (International version) finding 57 viruses on one rig and 34 viruses with 11 su on my server. Might have taken 6 hrs but it first detect then try to clean the file not delete clean the file for usage if installed, if it can't it removed the threat. But still 100% effective. Those marked free are free on the installer.

RIS 2009 has direct support with PC Doctor 6 free from Rising they call Internet Security Assistant.

If anyone has trouble finding the free RFW 2009 and the free RIS 2009 let me know. But there are links here in WSF that will pull down RIS 2009 Free stil. That's how I got the RIS 2009 free.

Do you know how RFW 2009 compares with the 2008 which came in for a lot of stick from David Matousec?

Stem how about the manual for the software Rising give that out in a PDF it can be downloaded from them. The free versions are on virtual servers so they're hidden off the main site. But you can access them on any site that show security for vendor update patches. Free and Paid I don't know why Rising does it this way but, I am not complaining..

    Well:

    Virus Bulletin Product Review
    - Rising Internet Security 2009
    Mar 12, 2009 - Virus Bulletin

You have to be a subscriber to read it.. Okay read it here:
    http://www.rising-global.com/Inform...uct-Review-Rising-Internet-Security-2009.html

    You could read that...

I run test lab here for myself and test out the threats with the different software that's available free or paid. I doing real-time real-world testing.. Everyone can do test and have different results. Matousec Comodo IS Free is the best, but in my testing it failed on one box on every box it told me I had the same dirty malware (jpeg/bmp) from winrar. That's all the scans reported. One box couldn't connected to the network with CIS. Same settings as the rest. Once CIS was removed it connected.

It's good to see what's available.. He doesn't have all the IS suites though.
