    Hey everyone!

I clicked on a link to a "game" last night and it seems as if Revop.C has installed itself! Any ideas how to get rid of it? Any help would be much appreciated! It's affected my Windows Media Player (it won't load up). I've not re-installed it yet, but will do (if you think I should).

Here is my Hijack This log:

Hi maximmortal, and welcome to Wilders.

I have moved your thread from the Trojan & Backdoors forum and into this forum as you have a CoolWebSearch infection.

To remove the CoolWebSearch infection, download http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe (direct download)

Make sure ALL browsers and any open windows are closed before running CWShredder.
Click the *Fix button (not the scan only) and follow the instructions you will receive when the program runs.

Reboot your computer after running CWShredder, and post a new log.

Also, I am not finding much on this file. Can you navigate to the 'numfilee.exe' file and right-click on it (do not left-click it) and choose "Properties". Look under the tabs there and tell me what it says, and if you recognize it?
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NUMFILEE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NUMFILEE.exe

    Regards,

    snap

I'm just about to check the other thing.

Also, when I try and run Windows Media Player, the AVG Resident Shield picks up C:\WINDOWS\BDLC4126.EXE and it won't upload.

Looks like 'numfilee.exe' was removed with CWShredder.

    Also, I don't recognise this:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eexebla] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\njzwhgcr.exe

Seems a bit dodgy to me!

Hi maximmortalBefore you start please move hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. This is now your desktop and that will look messy.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eexebla] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\njzwhgcr.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\njzwhgcr.exe

I don't know what this is for:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EBCHECKW] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\EBCHECKW.exe
    Do you?

To resolve the WMP problem please read:

    Regards,

    Thanks!

I rebooted in safe mode, but couldn't find "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\njzwhgcr.exe".

I ran a search and could only find "njzwhgcr.lgc" within C:WINDOWS\APPLOG

I've not deleted anything yet, should I delete this?

Same goes for the "numfilee.exe" I tried to find earlier. Could only fine "numfilee.lgc".

As for "EBCHECKW.exe", I did a right-click on it and looked at its properties. The company is Thunderdome and another name that came up was "actulice". It says it's a launcher or something.

OK. The following order below is important.

    First download and install: http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot
Allow the registry entries that are already present after you installed it.

When that is done use Ctrl-Alt-Del and stop this process: RTWDV.EXE

    Then delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RTWDV.EXE

    and have HijackThis Fix:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RTWDV] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RTWDV.exe

If Regprot warns you about a new Regsistry entry when you are busy with this denie permission it by cklicking No

Then reboot, run HijackThis again and post a new log.

    Regards,

    Pieter

When I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, "RTWDV.EXE" does not show up?

Did you reboot in the meantime?

The file will change name everytime you do that.

We will need a new HijackThis log.

    Pieter

    I can't remember! Probably!

I'm going to reboot now and then we can start from "scratch".

    This is the one:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lying WindowsF] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lying WindowsF.exe

In the case we missed each other again.
If you run HijackThis again, you will see that the replacement is probably in the same place in the log.

So, it will show up between
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG_CC] C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\avgcc32.exe /startup

    and

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [LoadPowerProfile] Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme

So procedure is stop lying WindowsF.exe (with or without spaces)
    Delete C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lying WindowsF.exe
    And fix: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lying WindowsF] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lying WindowsF.exe

    Keep us opsted,

    Pieter

    Ok, I understand!

However, none of the "bad" files ever show up when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I did notice though, that once I've rebooted, "Parsedls.exe" shows up on pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del... then like a minute after it disappears? I do not recognise this file, maybe this is the "bad" file?

    Hi maximmortal,

Run The Killbox and cop&paste this in the Enter Full Path and Filename box:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\INIM.EXE

Then click on Find and Kill this file. Wait for the confirmation and fix this entry in HijackThis:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [INIM] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\INIM.exe

Reboot and post a new log please.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Your log is clean.

Could you please zip up the C:\!Submit folder you have now and mail it to the address in my profile.

    Thanks in advance,

I'm having trouble e-mailing the file to you, because the e-mail system keeps on picking it up as a virus (even though it's within a Zip file) and so won't deliver!

Can you protect the zip file with a password or (to save us all the trouble) does the virusscanner tell you which one it is?

    Pieter

How do I protect it with a password?

All the system is picking up is the "INIM.EXE" file within the Zip...

    I have another idea: http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
    Upload it there.

You are probably using the built-in unzipper of ME and that does not allow you to password protect files (at least, not that I know off)

    Regards,

    Pieter
