My AVG virus scanner is telling me that my computer is infected by the Revop.c Trojan but, although it seems to deal with it, the problem remains. As a result of the virus I cannot open Windows Media Player. As advised on this forum I scanned with 'Ad-Aware 6' and 'Hijackthis' which produced the log file as shown below. Can you please advise me as to how I can clear this virus from my computer.

    Hi Maxd,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kdx] C:\WINDOWS\kdx\KHost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pup] C:\WINDOWS\System32\pup.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\pup.exe

    Hi Pieter,
I ran 'HijackThis' and fixed the appropriate files as per your list, however after rebooting to safemode I could not find the file 'C:\windows\System32\pup.exe. I did however find a file named 'C:\windows\prefetch\pup.exe-0402600B.pf Should I try to delete this file? Thanks for your help.

    Cheers, Maxd.

Yes, you can delete the prefetch file. But we need to be sure the real one is gone as well.

If you can not find it it may be a hidden file.
To "unhide" hidden files and folders:
Launch My Computer from the Desktop Icon.
    Select View, Details.
    Select the Folders button.
Select Tools, Folder Options. Then select the View Tab. Select the Show hidden files and folders radio button is selected
and that the Hide file extensions for known file types check box is unchecked. Once this is done, select Apply and then
Like Current Folder (located near the top of the Folder Options box). Then select OK.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,
I removed the prefetch file and then searched for the other file after following your instructions but, I could not find it. I had to re-install windows media player and everything seems to be o.k. now. Many thanks for your help.

    You're welcome. :)
The file must have been removed by one of the scans then.

    Regards,

    Pieter
