I was wondering, if there is any replacements for the normal windows software, thats free? (Such as a better form a paint, notepad, and window disk checker) I already have replaced Internet explorer, Outlook express, and am testing EditPad Lite for replacement to notepad (http://www.editpadlite.com/) and it seems good, doesnt seem to have any spyware, and no adware, but, I am still looking.. anyone have any suggestions?

for an editor, i use metapad

for a media player, try "media player classic" or bsplayer

instead of ms office, try openoffice

instead of windows/msn messenger, try trillian or miranda-icq or "easy message" for multi-network clients, or just move over to yahoo chat

If you're looking for a music player,I have been looking at Jet Audio.
It's a large download if you have dial-up,but other than that I like the free version.
I use it for cd burning and ripping cd's to my music files.
It's a very good music player that has some nice settings you can adjust and it's skinnable too.
I haven't found any spyware from it.

    See the screenshot below.

I looked at the jairlie.com list, and it looks horribly out of date, I'm afraid... no mention of phoenix, thunderbird, kazaalite, bittorrent, skype, maya learning edition, or anything else released in the last 18 months.

Move away from the very very mainstream areas and it's still weak. In security, for example, there's no mention of windows workstation firewalls, and the only free antivirus mentioned is the openantivirus.org project. Pretty much every area covered has similarly glaring omissions.

Short version: don't use it. Sorry.
