I just tried CCleaner Registry Cleaner to remove some non-existent applications showing up in File Cleaner. Turns out it was nothing, but trouble. I had bugs like Task Scheduler's "Run with highest privileges" access denied. Luckily I made a backup. Searched the registry myself, and did a far better job. Never touching one again.
It's way easier (and way more effective) for me to edit the registry myself. That said, I have CCleaner installed because I'm lazy.
Yes, i currently use 3: Ccleaner, Wise and Eusing, all free and portable. I used others too in the past and never had a problem
Hello, I use the Total Registry Revitalizer function of System Mechanic Professional. http://www.iolo.com/ Regards, Nathan
Registry Cleaners - Do you use any? Same, here. If I trust a Registry Cleaner, then jv16 PowerTools is the Only one!
I use CCleaner for removing all the temp files and general left-behind files. I have an extensive list of custom directories I like to empty out from time to time. I also Auslogics Registry Cleaner once in a while, but mostly after doing some uninstalls, or botched or repeated installs. If something really goes wrong then it's time to recover from a backup. If I need to find something specific in the registry I will Use RegCleaner 4.3 (jv), as a method of locating recently made entries. So this gives me an idea if I need to clean up after a sloppy un-install. Otherwise I don't really mess with anything. Been operating like this for years and have no issues.

I've read that for win7 and vista registry cleaners aren't very necessary due to virtualisation. But is there any interest to compact the registry ? And if yes which soft do you use ? Thanks.
For HDD, you can clean files and then you defragment it, that same applies to registry, you can clean it and then defragment it, but uninstalling leave quite a mess as well. I use free Quicksys RegDefrag and it reduced my registry size from ~100MB to ~60MB. When the registry is compated, system boots faster and it looks like it is a bit smoother.
IMO puran does a pretty poor job as reg defrag, Run it and then run Jv16 to see what i mean. as far i know defraggler doesn't have such an option.
