True Image User (Sufferer) for many years.

I bought 3 copies of True Image 11 on 10/15/08 (paid regular price--stupid me, not any of the $9.95 "deals/scams" that have been mentioned on the forum). When I went to register them I see that version 2009 has just come out. I expected to receive a free upgrade email--no just the regular $29.95 upgrade offer on the Registered Products page (never even got an email announcing the new version).

Well I looked at the Forum and say some folks who used online chat to get their free upgrades.

"Chatted" with Alex and was told that I could not have any free upgardes since I did not have a receipt from Acronis.

Sure would be helpful if someone from Acronis would use a little logic and make it so that when a person registers a past version after a new version is released that that person can get the new version.

Did you purchase them via Acronis on line, Yahoo etc? OK, just realised 15 October, TI 2009 already released, so not purchased via Acronis webshop

Did you actually register the v11 copies?

If you purchased online, did you not receive an email containing the order number, data and licence. What about a creidt card charge on your statement?

If you are then why haven't you notice which latest version was out ? Also from where did you purchase your copies ? Seem odd if it was from ATI . Lastly the $9.99 wasn't a scam . It was more like a smart move on ATI part . Either way you should still be able to get the latest .

    Additional info:

    Bought copies at Costco.

Registered new copies in "my account" online--added to my current registered versions.

New registrations never caused an email to be sent. And no, it was not filtered out by some spam or other filter as I manage the email accounts on my domains.

Acronis wants $29.95 to upgrade, I have never had to pay for an upgrade that was released in the same month I bought or registered the previous version.

No offense to you but I don't think ATI should give a free upgrade . What I mean is they wouldn't know for sure whether you work at Costco or not . Let say you work at Costco and thought of making a fake bill . They would never know for sure . You could of boughten your copies months ago , even at the time Costco first recieve them . I'm not say this is the case with you but this could happen . Also if Costco doesn't provide a refund ? Then your out of luck . That's what Costco is all about buying older items and selling them cheaper because its not the newest or latest . I notice with a lot of Costco items this to be the case.

Well on that logic, they could never be sure that anyone purchasing an upgrade was the original owner, or that someone purchased the software and gave it as a present to someone else. There is no requirement that the person who registers the purchase is the person who either actually uses it or paid for it.

I accept this is about to go waay off topic.

I would like to know why Costco is not a suitable vendor for TI. Certainly Costco isn't somebody selling pirated copies via a website. If Costco isn't a valid vendor who, by the way, sell MS-Office, Windows, and various other utilities, then what is the status of other well-known major stores selling TI.

Does this mean that you can't upgrade a boxed copy of TI? First time I've heard of it.

I think you can upgrade but not a free upgrade . Let say Costco got TI version 11 on Jan/2008 and I work at Costco , ok ? I go and buy this version 11 in Jan/2008 . Now comes Oct 2008 and I get a co-worker or even myself and make a bill showing that I just bought it in Oct/2008 . Should I be given a free upgrade to TI2009 ? If anything its Costco fault and they shouldn't be selling software like TI which is going outdated .They should either remove the older copies or get the latest softwares whenever they are available , not when they are going outdated .

You can devise fake receipt schemes with an employee from any store not just Costco. If fact, with Photoshop or equivalent and a scanner, you can probably make your own receipt.

I haven't seen any store that doesn't often have old versions of software on its shelves at various times.

Scams can and do exist for just about any special offer a vendor wants to support, and the vendors need to factor this into their decision to make an offer, qualification for the offer, etc. A bit off-topic, but here's an example of a recent scam associated with bonus points that was discovered just recently with cell phones (from the Asbury Park Press web site http://www.app.com/article/20081027/NEWS/81027011).

Back to point: Is this Acronis free upgrade policy written anywhere?

You might have if you bought it within the grace period but certainly not a lot later. IIRC, the original poster bought his just as TI2009 was released and his problem as stated by Acronis was a lack of Acronis receipt, not the time.

LOL , yeah okay ... Hey, I feel for the guy but I am just being honest with my opinion . I don't see this being Acronis problem or fault . In fact Acronis was trying to pleases their customers by giving version 11 for $9.99 . And he stated he was a long time user of Acronis . If that true why didn't he grab it when it was for $9.99 ? What more can you ask from Acronis . It sure a lot bettter than Ghost or X Clone .

If I wasn't a regular reader of this forum I would have had no idea of the $9.99 offering even though I ticked the box about being informed of special deals. The $29.99 upgrade price email came though.

No argument about it being better even if it is far from perfect.

Nice thing about buying anything from Costco, you can return it.

So I have now returned my 3 new TI-11s.

Bye Bye Acronis. Take your unreasonable upgrade policies, flakey website, and unstable program and...

    Hello all,

Thank you for your interesting in Acronis True Image

To clarify the situation Acronis do provide free upgrades to customers who purchased the software within 30 days prior to the release of the new version of the product. It doesn’t matter whether you purchased it online as download (using our online store) or as boxed version from any store. If you purchased boxed version within 30 days of release prior to the release of the new version or any time after release you are eligible for a free upgrade. Contact Acronis support using this link http://www.acronis.com/company/contacts/request/index.html?t=2 and attach a shot of receipt to the e-mail.

We would also recommend you to see the list of official Acronis reseller at http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/partners/resellers/locator.html

    Best regards,
