Greetings...........how far back, in terms of sites visited, can a webmaster see when tracing referrers ?

Referrers are sent by the browser in the headers.

A new one is sent each time. So the webmasters can see only the last one.

Tabs opened from parent tabs work differently depending on configuration, some send referrers some don't. Ditto for bookmarks, opening from files etc etc.

Check your browser documentation for details.

    Hi Rainwalker,

If you are interested in seeing what is being sent in the headers from your browser (along with a great bit of other info), try going to BrowserSpy. Go about 1/3 to 1/2 way down the page and you will see a section called "Headers Information".

    HTH ;) ...

Rainwalker if this is a issue with you, you can install firefox browser which will hide cookies and there is a extension called RefControl which will hide referrers.
