Now I am disturbed about something. Windows 7 Professional comes in both 32 bit & 64 bit. I cannot figure out if the ASUS Laptop on NewEgg has 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7 Pro. Does anyone know?

What is your opinion on Extended Warranties offered by Resellers? Do the Extended Warranty contracts have exclusions which cause problems.

The reason that I ask is that NewEgg is offering 2 Years of Extended Warranty on the ASUS Laptop for about $60.

    Thanks in Advance.

I just had a look at a few websites selling it and they all say 64 bit. If you want 32 bit Windows, you could download the Windows 7 Professional 32 bit ISO and do a clean install using the product key on the bottom of the laptop.

Usually, there are some exclusions but you have to check what they offer. Here's the T&C for Extended Warranty that I found. I can't speak for everyone but the default 1 year Limited Warranty for that laptop isn't a long time. 2 years for $60 is relatively affordable (compared to the price of the laptop itself) so it's an investment which I don't think would hurt your pockets that much. If it was $100-$200 then it would be a different story. Just my humble opinion.

Panasonic do make excellent laptops, but it is rather pricey starting at around $1,200. While not being as rugged, the quality of Thinkpads is very good, and unless you need a really rugged laptop, its probably not worth outlaying the extra cash for a Toughbook.

Have you thought about a MacBook Pro?

    Pros:
    • Can run Mac OS, Windows OS and Linux OS on the same machine (A universal workhorse)
    • Build Quality is excellent
    • You deal with Apple and Apple only, No third party companies (Same ecosystem)
    • Warranties can be a bit pricey, but they do take care of you if needed.
    • If you have a warranty, hardware upgrades and services are very rewarding.
    • Mac OS X upgrades are extremely cheap, compared to Windows OS upgrades (Lowest I've seen was $30 permanent)
    • Virus's for Mac do exist, just not as much as Windows.
    • A very nice selection of software.
    • Use or plan on using other Apple devices? All of them have the option to sync together (Good for business - Docs, Contacts, Apps, Photo, etc.)

    Cons:
    • Pricing is a little high
    • If you want to upgrade any Hardware, Apple has to do it for you.
    • Without a warranty, Apple Hardware upgrades and services can get expensive.

I'm a Windows user at home, but use a MacBook Pro on the road and I absolutely love every bit of it.

Best laptop purchase I've made, even over my Windows Laptops.

What has been your experiences with buying "Refurbished" PC's/Laptops?

Today, I looked at the Lenovo Outlet for the first time ever, and it appears that they have some good deals on Refurbished Laptops/Tablets. Does anyone have any experience(s) with buying from the Lenovo Outlet?

    Thanks in Advance.

I don't have any experience, but I had a look and they come with a 1 year warranty so seems like a good deal to me.

I have purchased a few seller refurbished Thinkpads and have been really happy with them, and to be honest I don't think I'd ever purchase a brand new laptop again.

My reasoning for this is based not only on the costs savings, but also due to that I have no need to have the latest and greatest technology when it comes to a laptop.

Since I really don't need a Laptop and just want one for convenience, I am now leaning towards getting a Refurbished Laptop. The one that I am considering has a delivered price of around $276. I would prefer Windows 7, but it only comes with Windows 8.

    Lenovo IdeaPad N586
    AMD A6-4400M Accelerated Processor
    Windows 8 Standard 64
    AMD Radeon™ HD 7520G
    4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM Memory
    15.6" HD WXGA (1366 X 76:cool: LED Backlight w/ 720p HD Camera
    500GB, 5400RPM Serial ATA 2.5" Hard Drive
    DVD Recordable Serial ATA
    6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    11b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless
    No Bluetooth
    Warranty: 1 Year

    That's way different than where you started;
Why not go for something in between, like a basic config $700 14"Thinkpad T430 version.
The most sturdy Thinkpad line (with X series).
Perhaps add a 32/64GB (OS) mSATA SSD yourself for less than $40-80 and I'd prefer also the 1600*900 $20 screen upgrade

Over 300% more expensive than a $276 IdeaPad but less than a third of the X-230.
Relatively light, fast, build to last, 6-7 hours battery time with 6-cell and Win7-64.

edit; and a T430, all Intel, will play nice reg. linux compared to Radeon headaches.

It's worth noting that the quality of Lenovo's IdeaPad laptops is not as good as ThinkPads.

I took the 'CHANCE' and purchased the Refurbished Lenovo.

The Laptop will see limited use and will be mainly for convenience such as web surfing on my "few" Hotel Stays each year.

I still like to use Desktop PC's most of the time.
