    Yeah, those blue update popups (and its sound) can also be hidden/disabled.

    avast! would be very good for that setup due to it's lightness, or NOD32 v2.7 is still available and is simple and light and still supports Windows 2000. A lot of newer products just don't support Win 2k anymore.

    I understand dropping of Win9x support as the architecture is ancient, but NT5.x technology is pretty similar across all current OS's (2k,XP,Vista and 7 are all based on it, just heavy upgraded).
