    Hi Zfactor,

You will get this message if you try to install on Windows 8.

    Best regards,

Installed Real copy and made a snapshot
Made a Time Machine snapshot and an Aomei backup as well beforehand

Tried to go back before Real copy via Time machine snapshot, The time machine software was rendered useless

Luckily Aomei saved my butt again just used it and didn't need a boot disc or usb

All back to the good. and Time Machine works as it should to..YMMV

    Hi Tyreman :)

Thanks for your details. When I was reviewing RealCopy, I noticed it places a tracking file within "System Volume Information" folder as does AX64TM, and therefore, both cannot be installed together from what I can tell. Being that both use a similar method of tracking volume changes, and also offer quick or 'fast rollback' features, conflict would be expected.

The difference with RealCopy from AX64TM, is that RealCopy will perform fast rollback upon a reboot/restart similar to DriveSnapshot, as opposed to AX64TM which will attempt a fast rollback from within windows which makes AX64TM very unique, whereas RealCopy restores on restart if fast rollback is chosen as restore type, and will restore only changed sectors and not an entire image, although that too is possible if one does NOT choose fast rollback as restore type, then in this case, the entire image would be restored upon a restart, the entire process being accomplished without boot media. If boot media is needed with RealCopy, the instructions to create are stated above using just 2 files rc.exe and rclib.dll placed on a flash drive or external drive, or anywhere you can execute rc.exe after booting into a PE environment via a winpe disc or a windows recovery boot disc, then navigating to where rc.exe is located, and simply run rc.exe to open a portable version, navigate to the realcopy backup/image you created, and restore just like any image program, or a bare metal restore, etc., plus you can also do cold imaging in this manner.

RealCopy works well, and is very flexible from my own testing, but it would definitely cause problems with AX64TM use within windows, due to the manner in which both applications track volume changes.

Both RealCopy and AX64TM are excellent applications, just not together.

By the way, great to hear Aomei Databackupper did the job :) Latest version 1.6 is extremely solid and I have used it several times, flawless each time. Their latest version they appear to have nailed quite a stable release, and I expect this to be some strong competition coming from Aomei in the free imaging program sector over the coming year or so as more people become aware of their free offering. I am quite impressed with Aomei personally, and find their interface to be one of the best and easiest to navigate, which will be helpful to those who are new to using disk imaging, etc.

Thanks again for reporting your experience :)

    Jim

Greetings as well Jim.... I concur with what you believe caused the conflict

As far as Aomei 1.6? A great piece of freeware for me and hopefully others.
I had used the one click creation option before drive copy installed and of course was on my seat biting my nails as it was asked to bail me out

It came thru with flying colours which surprised me for the second time..... it hasn't failed me

Actually putting it up against my pay for previous Acro*** software it is more reliable.
I have the CD ready as well for boot off,f11 if needed(I did test it)

Thanks for your comment and diagnosis

PS I wonder if the creators of Aomei took apart other vendors software and changed a few things to arrive a good results so early in the game?

You're very welcome Tyreman :) Indeed Aomei is doing a great job in their latest release, and I find it to be very solid and reliable as well.

Quite a nice offering for free imaging, and I am very glad to see Aomei keeping up with their development and ease of use and reliability as compared to even popular paid for imaging programs as you mentioned.

RealCopy from what I understand is to be releasing a new free version soon, including its own boot media creation and also offering a paid workstation version according to the developer I communicated with which will include some interesting features. I am keeping an eye out as to when they finally release it and the new free version. At present, it is very useful and reliable also it just takes some time to learn how to navigate the program and its features, but it does the job quite well in my experience with it. I like its portability as it stands with being able to simply copy 2 files to a flash drive/external drive and access them upon booting into a PE environment outside windows in case windows is unbootable, etc.

    Have a great day!

    Jim

They and the team behind AX64 Time Machine have joined forces, meaning that AX64 will become part of Realcopy. I hope that the new version gets a similar UI to AX64 Time Machine. Btw, the new website looks nice (I searched AX64 Realcopy on Google to get to it).

    Hi,

Do you mean a rescue media(iso,flash,etc...) which will load WinPE? If yes then this functionality is not part of Home edition yet.

    Best regards,
    Iurie

    Hi Tyreman,

Thanks. But I mean the automatic creation within app. We have already integrated it and it will be released in next version.

Now that they're joining forces - see http://www.ax64.com/news.html - it'll be interesting to see how the two do work together as one.

It looks like it might be free until January 2014, but maybe it's not set in stone yet.

    Hi Taotoo,

The site people have discovered is a WIP and not final. The pricing will be free until a fully integrated version of Realcopy and AX64 is released. Before that comes though, Realcopy shall be releasing another major version. We're really proud of it and it'll be free.

    Thanks,

    Waj

Thanks for the info. It's just that the new site draft, combined with the old version of Real Copy expiring in Jan 2014, and the statement that it would take 8-12 weeks to create the new version of Real Copy all suggest January 2014!

Not sure why this is in the RealCopy thread... there's an AX64 thread available.

AX64 will default to looking into the place where it thinks the files were created. You may change that, at restoration, by picking your new external folder before you start the restoration process. The BUTTON is called "Open other backups."

    Hi folks :)

Real Copy Workstation Version 1.0.781.0 BETA now appears available for download. The Beta version is free. I have used the previous version of Real Copy, and that was a very capable imaging solution with solid features. I suspect the latest beta to be even more fluid and flexible, but i have not tested it yet. No 'fast rollback' is available in this version, I think it will be implemented again using similar fast restores based upon AX64TM technology since Isso and AX64TM have merged with Real Copy. The older version of fast rollback had problems with SSD drives according to Waj. One can also now create bootable rescue media, a feature many mentioned they would like to see in comparison to the older version which required the use of 2 files to be used in association with a Windows RE recovery or installation disc. Additional details below.

    Here are the details:

    Features:
    http://realcopy.com/features/

    Download details:
    http://realcopy.com/download/

Please keep in mind this workstation beta supports the following operating systems as stated on the download site:

"Compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 to 8.1"

I think XP support will be coming in the release version for those that use XP.

I am looking forward to testing this beta, as I really liked the feature set of the earlier version, it just lacked sufficient help files, but once I made my way around how it works, it was quite pleasant to use and fast and reliable as long as one understood its operation and features.

Please share your experiences if you choose to beta test this latest version. Thank you to Wajubalo Howaday (wajamus) and Peter Nesic and the entire team. My very best wishes to all of you. I have been looking forward to testing this since Peter mentioned it to me back in August. Great to see it ready for its beta test. :)

    Jim
