So we will end with 29 flavors of the phone instead of just one. Sigh.

Purism's Privacy and Security-Focused Librem 5 Linux Phone to Arrive in Q3 2019
    https://news.softpedia.com/news/pur...linux-phone-to-arrive-in-q3-2019-525048.shtml

Am glad to see that they have finally sorted the power consumption and heating issues, but after an initial prediction of a January release, later altered to April, we now have an extra three months to wait. I guess it will be worth it if the phone does what it promises. Shame it's only a 4G, as all the [android] phones in Q4 2019 will be 5G.

I will wait a bit before purchasing one, let them iron the coming bugs/issues.
I like those kind of small companies doing tailored products.

    Same as well.

Once the fine tuning & testing reveals enough positives I would do a switch over to them.

650-700$ are you kidding! The specs are way behind cheaper but more powerful phones.
Sure it is handmade, but no thank you, I won't want a low-end phone even for some little privacy benefits.

They certainly are. As are the specs for XP and W7 but you try and pry them from the computers of some of the members here.

Librem 5 Linux Phone Starts Shipping September 24th in Batches Until Q4 2020

But sadly not for another 12 months. The link at the bottom of the article is a bit useless. HERE are the full details of the iteration schedule. A huge 6 months between Batch Dogwood [what I consider to be still in beta format] and Batch Fir, which should be a final product.

I am still very interested in this phone, but in 12 months time they have to include 5G or the sell will be even harder.
Also, we are putting our secure communications trust in a system that has just come out of beta.
Rather than seeing the finish line, this race has only just begun.

I've been impressed with Matrix, having evaluated the Riot/Matrix solution, which is interesting in its own right.

They will have to lubricate the key exchange process, I imagine using a similar approach to Signal would be the way to go practically speaking.
