Hi, I'm lookin for reviews/opnions from you guys about PUIAS. Much difference from Scientific Linux? More things out of the box? http://puias.math.ias.edu/
PUIAS - They are pretty fast. Version 6.1 is already available although will only be officially announced today afaik. http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/puias/6.1/ There are some extras like abiword. PUIAS is a recommended repo. for SL6.
Most because of this I'm asking. I already downloaded the 6.1 iso but I not installed it, I don't know if PUIAS offer something more... and since I read at the scientific forums that a alpha is already planned for the next weeks... Best is ask. For the base system, what is your suggestion? PUIAS have a "full" iso? Or just the boot (~220MB)?
I run SL6 so am not really qualified to comment on PUIAS. All I know is that unlike some repos. theirs are perfectly stable and do not conflict with the base repos. at all. So for repos. best are epel, puias, followed by rpmforge. I personally like SL6 simply because I have had no problems with it that could not be easily resolved. The SL forum is very helpful. boot.iso from puias should be fine, but I would ask in this thread on SL forum .. http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=396&st=0&#entry2753
Well I think i will continue with SL6... I already installed it sometime ago and make a decent desktop easy, with the nvidia driver and multimedia. Another point is how I just found the PUIAS boot iso, install it in my low speed internet most probably will be a pain. Will only add it to the repos. Thank you for the help!
