Protection without program running?

    Just curious:
    How is it possible that Spyblaster protects your computer if the program isn't running?

    This is the way it was explained to me:

    SB simply enters "killbits" into your Registry that prevents Spyware from being installed; simple but effective.

    Here is the popup you get if you try to minimize>
