I'm sure the reason that EU is watching the Fuchsia Project closely is so they can find another issue for suing Google again. It seems that Sue isn't a girl's name in the EU any more -- it's strictly a verb.

Google’s Fuchsia OS confirmed to have Android app support via Android Runtime

To make it simple, Fuchsia will use a specially designed version of the Android Runtime (“ART” above) to run Android applications. This version of ART will be installable on any Fuchsia device using a .far file, Fuchsia’s equivalent of Android’s APK.

How exactly Fuchsia will use the Android Runtime from there is still unclear.
Regardless, what is clear is that Fuchsia devices are intended to run Android applications. This should surprise no one, as Android is the world’s most popular operating system, and offering support for the vast wealth of Android apps in the Play Store will make the transition from Android to Fuchsia easier for users.

Google Has Finally Acknowledged Fuchsia OS, Claims It’s An Experiment

Not much is known about the operating system, but the various reports have claimed that it could be how Google finally merges its Chrome OS and Android operating systems together, but to date the company has yet to officially comment, at least until now.

During a podcast with The Verge, Android and Chrome chief Hiroshi Lockheimer finally revealed some additional details about Fuchsia.
However before you get too excited, Lockheimer does state that Google is still very much experimenting with it, so it is unclear as to when we might actually see it. He also goes on to hint that Fuchsia might not necessarily be an operating system for phones.

“Think about dedicated devices… right now, everybody assumes Fuchsia is for phones. But what if it could be used for other things?”

Fuchsia Friday: Google is beginning to ‘dogfood’ test Fuchsia OS

In software development, and especially Google’s development cycles, there’s usually a point where the developers “eat their own dogfood” or use their own work, before letting normal users try it. It seems that Google’s long-in-development Fuchsia OS may finally be reaching this “dogfood” stage.

Over the last year, there’s been signs that at least parts of Fuchsia — if not the OS as a whole — have gone through the fishfood stage and teamfood stage of development testing. The next phase, of course, is dogfood, which would open up Fuchsia to broader testing throughout Google.
Thankfully, from a comment on another code change, we can confirm at least one way that Fuchsia will likely be dogfooded.
What’s next on the menu?
Following Google’s usual development and release flow, dogfood should be the last stage of testing before reaching the public. If that final internal test goes well, it’s entirely possible that Google could move forward with bringing Fuchsia to developers sooner rather than later.

Security Researchers Attacked Google’s Mysterious Fuchsia OS: Here’s What They Found

In short, Fuchsia’s unique security properties “do not – and in fact, cannot – hold in the lowest layers of the kernel related to virtualisation, exception handling and scheduling, and that any bug here remains exploitable just like on any other OS.” Despite this, they concluded, it has the potential to “significantly increase the difficulty for attackers to compromise devices.”

Google is opening Fuchsia OS development to the public

For the past five years, Google has been developing a new operating system, Fuchsia, from the ground up. Starting today, Google’s Fuchsia OS is now being developed more openly, including accepting contributions from the public.

All throughout the last four years, however, Fuchsia has been something of a skunkworks project, with Google remaining surprisingly quiet about its purpose.
That changes today, as the company is making something of a splash with Fuchsia on the Google Open Source Blog, opening a call for developers to contribute to the project. In fact, this is the first formal announcement of the Fuchsia operating system’s existence and how Google plans to use it.

To both support developers and make the Fuchsia development process less skunkworks and more public, Google is opening Fuchsia’s bug tracker to the public. Just like Android and Chromium, Fuchsia now even has public mailing lists for those who want to be aware of major changes.
More importantly for both interested developers and the general public, Google now has a public roadmap for Fuchsia’s development.
