Well, to me Product of the Year may not be the best product. If you look at where Sandboxie was a year ago vrs today, Sandboxie has to get my vote.

It's still under development and admittedly has a way to go, but I nominate Comodo Internet Security because it sets the precedent of a freeware name-brand security suite that's going to get much better.

I think it is very difficult to determine a product of the year, when all the products that have been mentioned so far perform different tasks (AV comparatives has declared Avira product of the year among other AVs).

I'd say that if i had to pick one application among the ones listed in my signature it would be ShadowProtect 3.3 from Storagecraft.

I'd say Online Armor v3 (free or paid).

Running OA and running your Internet-facing programs as Run Safer allows you to come up with a very lightweight and, if you so choose, a free setup that's as effective as many paid security solutions.

A lot of good apps and developers mentioned so far. I guess I will go with one that has not been mentioned yet.

My vote is for Returnil and the help that Mike (Coldmoon) provides. After PowerShadow stopped it's free version, Returnil came on the seen and many of us haven't looked back.

    I'll have to second that.
There are several programs I could recommend but I would'nt have a computer to install them on without FD-ISR. :D

    Has never failed me yet!

I would say Online Armor (Paid). I like the generous holiday discount and I was able to renew another copy for the same amount. I was tempted to keep using my free ZA Pro license, but I wanted something original for a change.

Sandboxie would be my second choice. Great, no-frills protection for my browsing pleasure. New yellow border. Make it a Chicago Cubs (Cubbie) blue border because it might be another bad year. :'(

Threatfire 4.0 - I probably don't need it because I have Online Armor and Antivir Premium. At least you have a Worldwide Detection map that doesn't seem to change. :D

For me it's a Trio of Mamutu Behavioral Blocker, Avira AV, and DriveSnapshot!

There are a myriad of honorable mentions but those rank as the tops in satisfaction most for 2008!
