You should only need to do that if you boot to the recovery environment and can't see your disks.

    Just to clarify something.

You really only need to use the legacy environment if you have nvidia raid drivers. It already has them built in.

If you boot to the recommended environment and discover you need drivers loaded, you can do it right from with in ShadowProtect. There is an option there. It however won't load new drivers if the ones you are loading are already built in. So it won't work for Nvidia drivers as they are built in, just the wrong ones.

    Hi Pete,

I asked this question with Hardware Independent Restore (HIR) in mind. Even somewhere in the manual it is stated that you should have the drivers (like storage drivers etc) available when you do HIR. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply,
    MSM

As part of HIR, SP will ask to be pointed to where any type drivers are located. I would suspect you'd be fine with the recommended environment. But if it were nvidia raid I'd go with legacy. I only tested HIR in legacy.

    Hi msmasuta,

Most drivers dont need the F6 command and will install anytime, either by downloading from the internet or from a manufacturers CD,but a few others can only be installed at the same time as the Windows OS installation, which has F6 for this purpose.

As SP mimics a fresh install of Windows, the F6 command is also available and works similarly.

You should start in the legacy recovery environment(CD) and almost immediately will need to press F6 when instructed.

The necessary drivers should have been pre loaded onto this floppy disk.

Eventually SP will ask you to load the drivers.

Ignore the path on the picture, this would be for a specific driver probably Windows, which could have been installed without F6-point at the floppy.

    Load the drivers-
Then carry out the rest of the SP functions-thats it.

As mentioned few drivers need this procedure for their installation.

However, specifically drivers for creating a RAID array or for running in AHCI mode will require this method.

This applies to OS prior to Vista-with Vista the full operation can be carried out from within Windows.

Edit-If you already have the Intel Raid drivers installed in Windows,it is not necessary to use the F6 function, normal imaging and restoration of course applies.

This only applies when they are not present
