Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. I'm having trouble with my PC, my Spybot has turned up 2 entries of BackWeb Lite. SB was unable to fix the problem so I finally went to regedit and deleted it from there. Now I'm having some trouble with my IE. Is this connected and if so, is there any way to get it back?

Hello and Welcome to the forum's Tenacious D!

Were you receiving any popup's? I suspect without further investigation you have taken SB's result's as final word. :doubt:
Would you by chance be on a Compaq box and have this folder present - C:\Program Files\Compaq Connections?

Any of these soft's installed .... F-Secure (updates), Logitech (mouse driver), Kodak (updater),
    or Western Digital's Data Lifeline?

Which version of SB did you run and what OS are you on?
In addition, what entries were removed?

Thank you for the welcome Global... No I do not have F Secure, Logitech, Kodak, or Western Digital. My PC is a HP mx70 also... I was receiving pop ups, but not that many. The worst problem I was having was a program that was hijacking my homepage and replacing whatever I selected. For instance, I would select Yahoo and it would replace it with Search Spree. Yes I did take SB's word for it  and when it couldn't delete it, I decided to take matters into my own hands:oops: I have an older version of SB, I'm not sure which one. OSo_O not quite sure what that is... The entries that were removed were from the H Key Local Machine Software....Thanks for the help, I'm kinda on unfamiliar ground here:doubt:

  4. Did I forget to mention HP? :D .... possibly in C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update .... is your BWL app.

Well I thought about it T-D .... without some sort of filename to go on other than that browser redirect you got going to Search Spree, I would suggest not wasting any time and get moving towards an HJT reading. This would be the quickest way in getting resolved as most browser hi-jacking's are CoolWeb related. Unfortunately, Wilder's no longer handles these.

My advice .... look into the two links that follow for guidance with your particular situation.

In the event your browser of choice happens to be Internet Explorer, now's the time to educate yourself ....

BTW .... find your SpyBot version in help > about. OS? .... Operating System (2K, XP ....). ;)

Unfortunately, HP and Compaq computers come preloaded with Backweb Lite. My friend had a similar problem after we deleted BW Lite, so we opted to back up her computer programs and then have the computer reformatted. Her HP works fine without BackWeb Lite and she has been free of pop ups ever since. computer is running smooth as silk.

If SB did not delete BackWeb Lite, is it possible it is in quarantine? Check and if it is, then you can readily restore it.
