    Hello all

I am unable to access Tools, Options in Internet Explorer 6. I get a message...

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact the system administrator."

As I can no longer edit my homepage etc, has this problem anything to do with my recent downloads of Spyware Guard and Spyware Blaster?

Repairing IE 6 and uninstalling the above had no effect.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ed

    Hi Ed,

    Welcome to Wilders Security Forums!!

Have you also recently used Spybot S&D? Spybot has an option that enables and disables the ability to enter IE's Internet Options. It's on the Immunize page in Spybot. See image:

Notice that there is also an option there to allow/prevent changes to the IE home page.

SpywareBlaster does not have the option to lock Internet Options, but it does have the home page lock on its: Tools > Misc. IE Setting page.

There is also a registry change that can enable/disable the Internet Options. See this thread for more information:

    Hi LowWaterMark

I belatedly discovered that it was SpyBot! I thought initially that it was Spy Guard because the system tray icon remained even after uninstalling.

Hey, that image of Spy Bot was neat!

Thanks for taking the time to reply,

    Ed

Just to add: If the system tray icon remains for SpywareGuard after you uninstall, it means you did not shut down the program before attempting to do so. I'd recommend a re-install/uninstall.

    Best regards,
