    Hi,

I just formated a brand new 500GB external USB-drive to backup my System, as it starts, acronis sais there were only ~250 of the 500 GB free.
The backup of my 114GB systemdrive with 50GB used has been saved in 8 hours(!).
The windows-explorer sais the backupfile is ~100GB big and ~400GB space left.

    Greetings, Worf

How is your drive displayed in Disk Management?

To open Disk Management: Right Click on My Computer and click Manage and Click on Disk Management.

Similar problems. Back up was okay but Restore starts and says will complete in 1 day 8 hours.

I have ATI10 latest build and a LACIE 500gb USB drive which worked fine with ATI7 and XP.

Download and run the utilities provided by the HDD's manufacturer. When I installed my new Seagate drives, I ran DiscWizard and it said a registry key needed adjusting for Windows to recognize the drives, and it did so. Something similar may apply in your case, Worf. Qa'pla!
