Problem upgrading from ESET V4x to V5 (Whatever v5 current version is)

I just tried to uninstall ESET V4.x to V5 current version.

I waited over 30 mins for the uninstall app to only get quarter way (uninstall app said wait several mins?!) so decided my pc had hung it self for some reason so switched the thing off & restarted.

Tried to uninstall above again, then got "Error commincating with kernal"

So went to the ESET UK web support site & tried to follow fix.

Fix said go to "My Computer" & delete ESET directories, but "My Computer" has disappeared from my pc, so went to MS explorer to delete said directories & got a Windows message that I dont have admin rights to delete (grr) but I am logged on as admin for my pc!

So, please can anyone suggest to me if I can just go ahead and upgrade to v5?

Or must I delete the ESET directories?

Or must I find out how to get "My computer" back?

Please note I am running Window Vista Home Premium.

Any help greatfully received.

Please try to run through a Manual Uninstall and then report back as to whether this allows you to reinstall ESET.

As for "My Computer" disappearing, what windows o/s are you running? Has it disappeared from your desktop or your start menu or both?

Unfortunatly the manual link you gave me goes to a page the says "This page is invalid"

"My Computer" has disappeared from both.

My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium.

Manual remove link is now working - I just tried it!

 

I don't really want to try the suggested "Manual uninstall" due to the warnings given before starting the install.

Is there an alternative?

 

You should not fear using the manual uninstall method
