Yes, you can. I've done that before. Restore Vista first and get it booting (you may need to do a boot repair). Then you can setup OSS and continue with installing or restoring XP into another partition.

my question: the boot repair is with the vista dvd?

    My problem is fixed:

    1. restore xp with ati in partition 1
    2. install norton ghost 12 on xp
    3. make image with norton
    4. restore this norton ghost image in partition 2
    5. restore vista with ati in partition 1
    6. start vista, install oss in vista
    7. restart, hidden partitions, xp boot ini is automatically change in partition 2
    8. vista start and xp starts.

First question: Why does i have so much trouble when i restore xp image with ati in partition 2?

Second question: Now i have oss installed in vista and make an image with ati. What must i do, when i will restore vista? Must i disable oss or must i restore vista with enable oss?

    Thank you very much!!!

It probably has to do with how TI reorders the partition table if the image was originally backed up from another partition position. A read through this thread may help you understand what's happening: Problems with 'Signature' (ADD Drive Properties)

You should be able to just restore the Vista partition and be okay. If there is a problem with Vista booting, you'd do a Vista repair and then reactivate OSS.

Where did you install OSS to? Is it in the Vista partition? I have OSS installed in its own partition so restoring OS partitions doesn't bother the OSS files.

How did i install oss in an own partition?
Must i start vista and then say install oss in Partition 3, or must i install oss in partition 3 with the boot cd?

The partition must be on the same disk where the other os are?

To move the installation files, you may have to first uninstall OSS and then reinstall it. I don't know if the "repair/update" install option will let you move to a different partition.

When you install OSS (I ususally do it from Windows), select the "Custom" install. OSS will give you a list of partitions to select where you want to install it. The partition can be on any drive and can be NTFS or FAT32.

I have OSS installed on the third hard drive in my system in a small (10GB) FAT32 partition that I use as a "share" partition for my Linux OS's.

You don't need to hide the partition, but you probably can. If OSS will install to it when it's hidden then it should work. I haven't tested this, but I have booted OSS fine when the partition it was installed on was with another OS that was hidden and it worked fine.

If you don't hide the partition, then you have access to the BOOTWIZ files. That will allow you to edit them to fix problems (if necessary). You could, of course, unhide the partition and make changes and then hide it again.

Another option is to leave the partition unhidden and just don't assign a drive letter in Windows. If you need to assign a drive letter later, you can with DD or Windows Disk Management.
