Hi, I have Avast Free installed with all Shields active , except Script Shield. Private firewall also instelled with default settings. Could someone please advise if I should disable Behavior Shield in Avast seeing System Anomally Shield is active in PF etc//////or vice versa......Should I enable Process Detection in PF if I disable Behavior Shield in Avast. Any advices would be appreciated. Thanks Avast Free....Private Firewall...WinPatrol Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Avast uses a behavior-blocker type of HIPS. Private FW's HIPS is in the "classic" genre. There is some overlap, but there should be no instability. As to enhancing security -- for every day surfing, one or the other of these 2 HIPS types should be adequate. If you are surfing in dangerous waters, (porns, cracks, flaming folks on black hat forums, etc), then both *might* CYA.
LOL , flaming ppl at black hat forum, I wonder who dares to do that? As for the question : BB and HIPS works well together. As long u didn't mind answering twice for a same process. And yes, if u don't make you're self a target, u can turn of one and still having good protection all around. If u want to choose between both, pick BB if u want a quiter pop up, and pick HIPS to have more granular protection
Instability depends rather on the implementation of the PS (which is a black box for us) than on the conditional definitions we try to apply. BB or Classical HIPS are just the words with no absolute meaning. The both schemes penetrate each other, though the vendors try to position them as absolutely different approaches.
