Ya of course that is the pop-up issue.
Idiots will always click, and not always just idiots.
End user participation and response is encouraged but not always expected. !! Hence the cloud. :)
Not all downloads/notifications of "you are infected: just run our "devil-antivirii-infostealer-trojan-you'll-love-us""are voluntary and these should be hooked prior to running.
Some endusers cant be protected no matter what.
    Hopefully enough will not.
IIRC, part of the early PX was 'the community' submitting unknowns: perhaps, not as effective as a couple of installs, then the cloud.

PrevX was a great HIPS/IDS tool.
PrevX has morphed with time to develop better central control options and was well ahead of the mob with cloud based interventions, but did leave some functions in the dust as has been discussed.
This has been mooted in the past as an "advanced user" console.

Doubtless PrevX in a large centrally controlled institution is invoked in different ways to hyperactive desktop users :D and some requirements may be a bit different.

PrevX has demonstrated an ability to rapidly deploy new tools, I hope the devs remember that abandoning some older options may not always be the best approach.

    Echo that.
    Enough of repeating myself :p
I have PrevX on all my boxes and likely will continue with such, ...just....waving, not drowning ...
    :)

careful what you wish for... ...this has happened before to other good products, developers trying to carve something making everybody happy, but ending up with useless bloatware monsters.

you cannot expect to have everything in there HIPS, Pop-up blocker, firewall, Executable Protection and the all like. They mentioned somewhere that Prevx is complementing existing AV solutions

I will abandon Prevx the moment it is heading towards bloatware, just for them to please everybody

    Could not agree more.

These are the reasons I have ditched Kaspersky some years ago: it has become bloatware.

I'm curious what they will put next in the program. An alarm clock perhaps ?

The total installer for Prevx 3.0 is less than one megabyte... in which way is this bloatware? :doubt:

you must gotten me wrong there - I said I will, not I do. It is not bloatware yet, I made this comment in view of what some want Prevx to be(come)

He is not talking about an installer, he is referring to a "complete" program
e.g. a proggie with hips, pop-up blocker, firewall etc etc in it.

but i think a hips can be usefull. prevx installer is only 1 mb, no other vendor have such small installer, now prevx can add something new :)
but only things needed for securety reasons, not like nortons defrag funktion or something like this, but i think a hips for example can be a good additional part to be safe.
Today you have so much new malware per day.

Hips feature is needed. I think a good way of handling it would be to have the default hips option of allow or deny if the file is not noticed from whitelist. But they could have another button that say "Block and send file for analysis". This would upload file to Prevx and then Prevx would send a email to the individual(s) and notify them if the file is legit or malicious. Also at the notify screen of the unknown file state to the person that the file is unknown to Prevx and has a percentage of being malicious! That would deter any novice user from installing the file.

    Just my thoughts.

Yeah, an option to be able to activate HIPS with possibilities to block and send file for analysis. :) Not sure how well HIPS works on x64-systems though. It'll be darn hard to implement.
