could someone tell me how to switch the main computer of a network?

i have an old computer which is almost totally unuseable, but which is our home hub. we don't have any peripherals on it. We got the new one and (as a quick fix) just put it on as part of the network rather than as the hub. I want to change it but am woefully ignorant as to how to go about it...

i have the router software, but am unsure whether i need anything for the cable modem or the wireless access point.

ps- we also do our phone thru the net, so i am unsure how changing will affect that.

    pps- help <G>

Probably the best bet would be to go to the router manafactures home page and check out their support. Some of the sites actually have pretty decent support and help info on setting up a home network. Without actually seeing your setup it is very diffiucult to appraise the situation and give you any comprehensive assistance.

sorry I couldn't be more help.
