Ports

Could someone please direct me to an article explaining ports; what they are, why they are open, what communications use what ports, why there would be more then one port open, etc, etc.
It needs to be easy to understand!

Great links in those pages, too.
But I wouldn't say they were exactly easy. I feel like that guy in the article who said that he thought he was the only one in class who didn't have the knowledge.
