This thread is getting pretty good reccommendations. I was thinking about creating a pstart menu with all of the reccommendations included on it. It could be based on the Computer Repair Utilility Kit and add whatever else was reccommended. Also the CRU kit should probably include updated applications since its already a year old. I will try do this within the next week but i might be busy with school so someone else can give it a try if they want.

Yes, I see now that our recommendations here were mostly already coverted in some past threads (that will teach us again to make use more of wilders' searching facilities :D ).

But it could also be a good idea to sum it up in a post somewhere, and Coolio10's pstart menu suggestion would surely be very handy, still.

Ok, i had time so i made the ultimate system repair USB. It should include all the software mentioned unless excluded (see below).

Please try it and tell me what else to add/remove.

I purposely didn't add any shareware or really new software (eg avast antirootkit). Also excluded PC Repair System for 3 reasons.
    1. I'm too lazy to find out where each utility should go under pstart menu
    2. I think most of the stuff it includes are already availlable in C.R.U.K as bigger apps.
    3. Some of apps it includes aren't really useful for repair such as a cd burner.

I also fully updated whatever was initially included in the C.R.U.K.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/164488572/Computer_Repair_Utility_Kit.zip.html

And yes i know its over 200mb, but i did say it was ultimate and i am sure most of you have atleast a 512mb flash drive.

    Enjoy!

Added gmer, avast cleaner, icesword, security console, avg installer. Would add the avast installer but its the only one that requires additional registration.

Also added more organization where possible.

Also there have been 13 downloads. I don't mind you not saying thanks since i didn't really do much except combine a bunch of programs, but your opinion is welcome so i can try improve it.

I suggest using the UltimateBootCD4Windows,it comes with a variety of malware scanners included (Avira,Kaspersky,A-Squared,SAS to name a few)and other plugins can be added such as Sophos and DrWeb.There are many other tools included for data recovery, reg editing etc.
IMO the most useful tool ever created for disinfecting/repairing pcs.:thumb:

For finding suspicious files by non-signature methods, you can use Mandiant Red Curtain. A review and tutorial on running this program in portable mode is found here.

I've nearly finished my own USB computer repair kit. It has approximately 110 entries. In addition to fighting malware, I also added programs for fixing Windows problems. If anyone is interested, please say so, and I'll list the contents here.

It's approx 400MB uncompressed, 300 MB compressed. Should I list the contents first so you can decide if you want it?

Sure MrBrian, if a list is easy to post; list away! These type of compilations are very useful so please share.

Think about it. Someone may be trying to help a someone else and they can't quite seem to be able to... until they tried a fix they were unaware of. And thanks to MrB, it is now possible - great outcome!!! :thumb: It's a classic Win - Win.

    Thanks either way.:)

I've put together a USB stick computer repair kit. I've considered for inclusion everything from my software collection, everything in this thread and the similar thread referred to in this thread, everything at http://www.technibble.com/categories/computer-repair-tools/, and everything in PC Repair System. ('Considered' does not necessarily mean 'included'.) I appended the suffix 'Setup' to those programs that are installers. The programs without 'Setup' appended are not necessarily truly portable, but they run without installation.

    Here are the contents:

    Foxit Reader
    NotePad++
NirSoft Suite (collected with the help of NirSoft Installer)
    Sysinternals Suite
    Windows System Control Center

For safety, I used FileVerifier++ to fingerprint the .exe, .ocx, .dll, .sys, and .com files on the USB stick. I also made a self-extracting archive of the FileVerifier++ folder, and renamed it to a file extension that would not normally be associated with executables (so that viruses might perhaps skip it). If I am concerned that a virus may have changed the USB stick programs, I will copy the self-extracting FileVerifier++ archive, rename the copy as .exe, run it to extract FileVerifier++, then run FileVerifier++ to check the desired USB stick programs for integrity.

Thank you :). I'm not sure if the license of any of these programs disallows redistribution though? Also, I've already deleted some unnecessary files from some of these programs, but I believe the license for some software requires any redistribution to include all original files.

I didn't upload mine because of licensing issues. However, offhand, I believe all, or almost all, of the programs I mentioned are free. Programs without 'Setup' at the end are "portable enough," meaning that they a) work without installation b) don't (seem to) mess up the system when used. I got most of them from one of these methods: a) vendor website itself b) http://www.portablefreeware.com c) http://portableapps.com d) search in google with program name and also word 'portable'.
