Thanks for this! I've already wrote it down for safekeeping. Just to be clear, is this all correct?

By Chipset, is that the INF Chipset Utility?
    Is this the Chip ID?
Is motherboard the cd that came with the MB and the MSI Live Update Utility?
    Are patches the Windows updates?
And finally, by network are you meaning the Ethernet drivers? I just want to get this right

Yes, I have the GPU in the right socket. Thanks for the info on the parallel port. I think I may be able to disable it like you said. I'm using the new OEM copy of XP that I bought from NewEgg. I can't turn on Write Caching for some reason. All the settings are greyed out.

Thanks for the BIOS settings :). Also, thanks for your help and patience. Installing the hardware was the easy part. The software and BIOS have been a huge challenge and unfamiliar territory for me.

    Hairy coo,

Sure, I'll send you the E8400. How about one of the Core 2 Extreme QX9650s in the anantech (newegg) contest :p. I think I'm gonna sign up for that one ;).

As long as you put your motherboard on first you less likely to run into problems as this is the heart. if you put the grfx on first then it can stop the motherboard devices from installing right etc. yes ethernet. general patches for the motherboard fixes etc. the rest is upto you but thats a good order to keep to. if you have the latest drivers then put the graphics on after motherboard instead.

I must of missed your using the new OEM. If you load up the Intel Console that's if you have it and right click the drives you can turn on that way. It probably been disabled in Device Manager and being controlled from there instead.

I'm having all sorts of random little weird things happening which also happened to Hairy Coo. I just went back 2.4GHz to eliminate the possibility of the OC causing some of the problems. I may try to make the slipstreamed XP with your instructions. Is there anything else I should include (remember, I'm a newbie). Can I install the Raid drivers (in Windows) after the slipstreamed install? I see the Raid drivers on the MB cd, but it won't let me install them.

I'm not even sure what the MB drivers are. In the MB cd GUI, I see Intel INF update, Ethernet driver, audio driver and the RAID driver which just showed up recently. The program must sense what is installed. I've only messed around in the GUI part, but it does have a browse cd option. I'll have a look around the MSI site for more info.

In the intel console, I can't perform any actions by right-clicking. It says no actions available. I've borked my system :ouch:. A fresh install is what I need with the correct drivers in the correct order. I'll just limp along until I collect the newest drivers and save them on my data partition for later and make the slipstreamed XP with AHCI and whatever else you suggest.

FWIW, the APC UPS "Power Chute" program indicates my system is using 118w when idle/surfing and up to 205w when running Prime95 large FFT's. That was at 3GHZ.

Edit: I'm going to try and make a nlited cd. When I select driver per your instructions, I see iastor.inf and iaahci.inf (do I need this?). Ok, per your intructions , I click iastor.inf to highlight it, then click open and then do I select these two only for my MB? Is there a way to integrate my RAID drivers also while I'm at it?

Write Caching increases speed alittle but small chance of data loss mainly meaning if you unplug it while pc on then the cache not always save. I don't know the reason it greyed out at moment but maybe something to do with the AHCI not working right. I would wipe it and put the drivers onto a cd. or if you got a floppy connected, copy to that and press F6 when you see at bottom loading XP on the blue. That's the 2 you need for AHCI and RAID, so the XP CD will work with RAID as well another time. Yes make a nlite cd. Don't do all the options just intergrate drivers and burn CD for now. It should be ok with OEM. I posted how to do nlite awhile ago. Install everything even the RAID driver. 118W sounds about right not much over default. So you got the UPS after all. When you install new XP get all the XP updates on your pc after motherboard intel driver.

    Innerpeace,

As you are going to do a new install, this way would be good:

You will need nLite,Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility for providing the Intel drivers,Intel Matrix Storage Manager for RAID and AHCI install-plus the final SP3 ISO and of course XP2.

Before you go any further, backup your partition!!

Suggest you also download Driver Magician free here.
Then run Driver Magician and extract all drivers from the current system.

You will see a lot of MS drivers-ignore ,you wont need them as XP2/ SP3 will provide, also ignore Intel drivers-you have updated them from Intel.
The remaining drivers are ones which may also be needed, for unrelated hardware for example, after making sure they are up to date-such as for Printers,n Vidia, scanners.
Or get the latest downloads of these and install from the exe. files afterwards.

But be sure the Ethernet drivers from your MSI CD are available for nLite,so that your new install can connect to the internet immediately.
Put these drivers into a folder.

Download the final SP3(Snapfiles has it).
It will be an ISO file of about 533mb,and needs to be made into an exe file (or similar)for nLite. Use your ZIP app to do this.

Download the two Intel utilities from HERE and HERE

All drivers can be left in original folders for nLite(naming doesnt matter),but they CANT be sub folders -or individual drivers are OK.
For example, the Intel "ALL' folder(as below) will be recognised by nLite as Intel edrivers and will confirm that.

Put all drivers, folders ,SP3 etc which will be needed by nLite in one accessible spot-like the desktop.

Start nLite-you know the drill and it will extract the i386 folders from the XP2 CD.
    Next window will be presets-ignore.
Next will be task selection- enable ALL except Hotfixes.
    Next select the service pack.
Next insert drivers-as per your folders.
Next options Components-select components you want to remove-like MS Games-Messenger etc
The next buttons are self explanatory dont be fazed by them.
Dont be concerned about removing components which are obviously completely irrelevant or useless!

The end result will be an ISO file you burn onto a CD and and run as a fresh install .
My final ISO file was only 340mb including the drivers ,down from 533 quite safely-a saving in size of 200mb,.

The new install will work immediately and well,IF DONE CORRECTLY.
ALL the correct up to date ICH9 Intel and other drivers will have been installed.
Windows will be up to date.
    Good luck :thumb:
    bug.gif

    edit;

re the Intel Chipset Utility-unzip and use the 'ALL" folder for drivers.

re the Intel Matrix Storage Manager -use the 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility -copy to a floppy and install F6 when instructed by Windows-keep a lookout for this option, as it only appears briefly!

    OR I Prefer;

    Markymoos method

Thanks to both of you for your help!

I don't have a floppy drive so I guess I need to integrate the drivers with Nlite. Can it preserve Windows activation? I've heard some people mention that it can't be activated.

I'm going to hold of on SP3 for now even though it's tempting. It could add to my problems and I'm about to the end of my rope as it is. I will keep it simple and then when the machine is purring along, I will dig into Nlite some more. It looks like a lot of fun when you have the proper knowledge.

I believe I have most of the new drivers I need now saved on my D: partition. Before I go about the re-install, I will post what I have for your inspection.

    Hairy Coo,
Thanks for your detailed instructions. I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge. I don't know which drivers to select other than all of them.
I also like the little bug :). Does it mean that I keep going around in circles? LOL

Ive exactly outlined the critical drivers you need to select-of course you are up to the challenge-but you have to try, otherwise you will never get everything working properly-Ive been through all this, dont forget:thumb: :)

Its really quite straightforward-you will always have the backup as a last resort.
Try using a flash drive instead of a floppy for installing Matrix-or buy a floppy-they really are quite useful.
In the unattended section of nLite you will need to enter your XP2 code,or alternatively dont use this option and verify your download seperately or whatever.

I can confirm SP3 will give absolutely no problems if its done exactly my way!!

I don't have a flash drive or a floppy drive. My relatives 98SE old computer which I'm going to retire this weekend has one, but it's white, hasn't been used in years and has been smoked around :gack:. I will try the markymoo method and include the AHCI and Raid drivers on the cd (like in my pic). I guess I still need to install the matrix software after the fresh install.

Was you able to activate windows after your nlited install? I did see the unattended install options, but didn't see anything about preserving the activation to possibly avoid a phone call.

    Innerpeace,

Use the floppy from the other computer, doesnt matter if its old as long as it works ,simple to do-just like installing a new drive but easier.Always handy to have-quite a lot of apps still need a floppy.
If you dont like the white colour, just mask around the front or take off the front and spraycan black matte.

nLite has full provisions for activating Windows with the code,as I said use the Unattended section.
I've done it a few times so there is no doubt about this.

As regards which drivers need to be accessed/installed by nLite, just specify a folder, for example the COMPLETE Intel "ALL" folder, which contains a lot of irrelevant drivers.
The correct drivers for your mobo will be choosen automatically,so you dont need to sort them out.

This applies to all drivers in folders ,Windows will choose the correct drivers.

As regards installing Intel drivers as a repair or parallel install,I have tried both and had no success,as I ended up with a mix.

    You should have the following number of ICH9 family drivers installed and marked as such;

    2 IDE ATA/ATAPI
    8 System devices
    8 USB Controllers
Plus the MATRIX drivers and maybe others depending on your mobo

EDIT; Of course if you follow markymoos invaluable advice as in my post above ,re installing the Matrix drivers-you wont need that horrible white floppy!!

Quite right-but it does take a long time if it hasnt been done for about 4 years :) .

However, well worth the effort as the accumulation of vast amounts of junk and unwanted apps.,which shouldnt have even be downloaded in the first place, is quite amazing.

Still have XP multiboot installed-one system is the old one, which I may retain for testing.
The other is the SP3 ,all correct,to be used for everyday use and OVERCLOCKING:thumb:

Was thinking of deleting the old one,but it has come in handy.

Edit; the flaw in all this of course is that the BIOS serves both systems in the multiboot-so may have to delete the old system after all, if there are problems with the overclock.

Yes it seems that it is impossible to overclock with a multiboot,as presumably the BIOS cannot specify or distinguish which system to 0/c, and cant do both! Back to the drawing board!!

    Hairy Coo,

The darn floppy drive either isn't working or my old disks are shot. I'm going to post some settings and questions about the nlite setup sections to make sure I'm doing it correctly.

    * Drivers- I click insert then Single Driver then click iastor.inf, then click Open, Text mode driver is ticked (is this correct or does Regular PNP driver need ticked?) I then hold Control and select 2 ICH9 drivers like in this previously posted pic and click OK.

for INF drivers, I have the "All" folder on desktop. I click Insert, Multiple Drivers folder (is this correct or do I need to select single driver?), then click "All" folder, click ok, then highlight/click C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\All then click ok.

    * Components- What keyboard do I need or does the option in Unattended select the right one? Do I need United States - International Keyboard or one of the Dvoraks? Languages under Western Europe and United States, do I select English (United Kingdom)? Does anything else need unticked that is a waste in this section?

    * Unattended- Unattended Mode (Hide Pages) is this one ok or should I change it? Oem Preinstall (Enabled) is this ok? Under Regional, English (United States) is selected and use language type is ticked. Does this mean I can select all the other languages and keyboards for removal in the Components section? Is there anything else that I should select in this section?

    * Options- Does anything need selected in either the General or Patches tab?

I'm not looking for perfection with this nlite disk. I just want to get the most important drivers and SP3 working. I can do the rest manually. Am I correct in thinking that the above nlited disk will install my AHCI and RAID drivers as well as the Intel INF drivers. After installation with the nlited disk, what's next, installing the Matrix Storage Console? Would I still need to run the Intel INF (chipset drivers) before the Matrix software?

Should I leave only the keyboard, mouse, monitor and Ethernet plugged in during install. Also, in the BIOS, should I leave the RAID Mode set to IDE while installing Windows? When should I switch it to RAID or AHCI?

Am I missing anything else that is vital to getting a correct install of Windows with AHCI/RAID and the chipset drivers?

    Thanks once again,
    innerpeace

    Innerpeace

So use markymoos method to extract the Matrix drivers to a folder

Run iata621_enu.exe but DO NOT click Next, instead browse to C:\WINDOWS\Temp\IIF\Winall\Driver and copy all 6 files complete in the folder.
Just copy the whole Winall folder to the desktop.
The install program must be running(do not cancel) or otherwise the Temp file is deleted-but do not click NEXT!

As I said in my previous post, use folders for containing your Intel and Matrix drivers-then use the" insert Multiple Drivers" option and insert both folders.
nLite and Windows will do the rest,no need to sort or delete within the folders.
nLite will confirm the folders contents

Assemble all the folders in one convenient spot on the Desktop.

Dont forget the Network Adapter driver from your MSI disk,to immediately enable the internet, plus any other local ones which you found as per my previous post re Driver Magician.
    These can be inserted singly.

Naming isnt critical and there is no need to sort the drivers as Windows will only install the appropriate ones.

    Dont make problems for yourself:)

In Components I strongly recommend you disable those you dont need.
All keyboards, language etc.,is specifically for USA in your case
A lot of languages are not needed,as dozens of specialised components-Sony Toshiba etc.

Dont worry about the Options tab,if you havent any patches etc,

This is the whole point of the exercise-the best way to install Matrix,Intel INF and SP3.

If your SP3 isnt up to date, get the final SP3 as I said previously.

Leave everything in place-after install go to BIOS and enable AHCI,probably may be in two locations.
If the Matrix install hasnt been succesful, you will get a BSOD-no tragedy.
Restart to BIOS and change settings back to IDE.
Then try to figure what went wrong!!

I did find Matrix unecessarilly awkward to install.

If a successful start is achieved-go to Devices Manager and check if the drivers are all in place.

Then stock up with champagne and have a party!@#$%^&*

Yes-make sure you back up using SeaWizard-then no matter what happens- you will be OK.

    Hairy Coo,

Thanks for the details. I was doing a little reading tonight and was following your advice about making an image. I found out why my last image was taking so long. I was going through 2 links posted here about BIOS options to learn a bit more about AHCI.

This is what I said in post #466.
Ummm, I think I changed the PCI IDE BusMaster to disabled when I switched my IDE burner for the SATA burner.... I thought no IDE devices, this need disabled o_O. I tried an image tonight with the same setting and it was going to be a long one. I canceled and went into BIOS and enabled the PCI IDE BusMaster and C: partition (16GB) was imaged in 13min. and verified in 7min. I'm an I-D-I-O-T, but knowledge was gained. I still don't know why it's needed other than maybe IDE = ATA.

I figured it out by looking at this link that markymoo posted and specifically this section. It says it's needed for DOS based utilities. I was just looking through my links tonight and got lucky.

I'm all backed up now and I made the ISO from everything I needed on the desktop. I also saved copies of everything to my data partition in the event I need to make another ISO. I will try the installation tomorrow as it's very late/early here. During the next two weeks I shouldn't have to deal with my old computer or my sis's so it's finally my time :). I can't wait to get back to 3GHz and everything properly installed :).

Did you finally get everything back in place and start OCing again? Hopefully we will be back in the saddle again with positive results. I'll send a bottle of Champagne when were all sorted out :thumb:.

    innerpeace,

Can understand the confusion about your BIOS settings

IDE is the same as ATA and SATA is just a faster form of (P)ATA..

Your backup speeds certainly have improved-but maybe still a bit slow, even though completely usable-so it may just be SeaWizard, or a lot of videos.

Good link by markymoo(where has he gone-come back we miss you:D ) about the BIOS.

Good luck on the new install-it will all work out one way or the other !!
    Hopefully,not the other.

As I said previously,I am running in multiboot(dual boot) mode, using XP for both, one boot being the old,the other the new system
The original intention was to have the old system as a reference point for the new, as regards what software etc etc., should be iinstalled, then deleting the old partition.

I now find its very useful to run in this mode and would like to keep it.

The old system is used for testing software and has most of the data in that partition, with shortcuts of the data(My Documents etc) in the new system.
The new is used for everyday work.

However a couple of major disadvantages have become obvious.
Because the BIOS serves the whole drive, which contains both partitions,I cant overclcock or install that wretched, hateful Matrix driver AHCI setupo_O (the old system belonging to a previous mobo).

Thinking of getting a new HDD and seperating the systems onto seperate drives-hopefully that should solve the problem.

When you send the champagne, could you make it French vintage, thats what I like:)

Try Driver Genius http://www.driver-soft.com/ it better program and more accurate on the right drivers. Well done on the all-out advice.

If you interested on intergrating latest updates into your XP CD to keep it upto date then keep an eye on RyanVM. Any updates after SP3 you be able to slipstream them all in. http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/

If you interested in intergrating tons of needed drivers into your XP or have them on 1 dvd for all hardware that just about existed for cpu, graphics, lan, sound, raid and more then driverpacks is useful to have http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ Over 20,000 drivers in all.

Yes just when i thought i won't need it putting RAID drivers on CD. The latest m/b insist on using floppy to update there BIOS, can make it so it runs from a bootable CD.

Sure it is. The BIOS doesn't know you have 2 O/S on. It only knows hardware and the drive order. It won't matter how many are on there as long as there stable. The O/S is just code and data being read from the MBR. The software reads the BIOS. The BIOS doesn't read the software.

Innerpeace. As you new to nlite i did recommend you just intergrate the RAID and burn the CD for now or you could be overwhelmed with all the options but Thanks to Hairy Coo giving good advice he made it easier. It just there's so many good options. For the firxt CD just intergrate the RAID and burn to get the hang of it, then when you successful, build another CD adding more drivers and making it unattended.

The Seagate backup i not used. I don't know how good there drivers are but it sounds like they are running your hard drive in legacy compatibility mode hence the long time and not optimised SATA drivers. I say again try another software like Image for DOS with the busmaster BIOS feature turned off just to see. It could be just a driver problem not making use of your hardware. I recommend image software to back up in Windows as the software is very reliable, fast and restore in DOS but it sounds like you got a good backup time now.

Champagne? How about a trip to Canada to catch those salmon to go with it ;) Finish off fixing innerpeace pc first hand. A nice end to the blog, lol.

Someone said Champagne so here i am :) Your in good hands, talking of nlite i notice my name not on the credit list anymore since the earlier releases.

    Hi markymoo,

My problem is that despite clearing the BIOS,the overclock just wont hold-no matter what I do.

For example, I overclocked at 2.45 ghz-the BIOS immediately reset to 2.4

    Yes,I have disabled EIST

    Do you have any ideas?

Thanks as always for your interesting tips and links:thumb: :thumb:
Will check them out in great detail.

How is your computer running-still at record levels?

PS; That Seagate Wizard is substantially the same as Acronis True Image 10

Well seeing your knowledge is the best, you owe it to Wilders to hang around!!

Yes nLite is amazing, well worth a donation!
That attachment on your post didnt work-were you involved with nLite-let us know!

Just tried Driver Genius-a definite MUST HAVE!!

See you in Canada for a spot of fishing,a crate of Dom or similar and wild moose avoiding:D

    Hi Hairy Coo and markymoo,

I tried the nlited cd I made and fiddled forever to get the RAID to show up and the Matrix software to work properly. I even tried using the manual method of installing the drivers with no luck.

Then later in BIOS, I tried setting the RAID mode to RAID and then installed Windows with the nlite cd. I can now see the SCSI and RAID controllers in Device Manager which has one controller listed. Could this be part of Hairy Coo's problem/s? The hot swap doesn't seem to be working, but I'm not sure if turning on Write Caching would help. I didn't play around with it much.

In the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I don't see anything about ICH9/R. Here is what it shows and the other Device Manager settings show. Does this look good before I activate Windows. The question mark on other devices is just my sound driver which I haven't installed.

    http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4889/devicemanagerub1.jpg

Is it time for Champagne and Salmon or is it back to the drawing board?

P.S. nlite is really cool! I'm Looking forward to eventually taking the time and digging into the settings. The only thing I had to do with this install was hit enter for my computer name.

Edit: Is the reason nothing shows up in IDE ATA/ATAPI because I'm in RAID mode? If I switch the RAID setting in the BIOS to AHCI, would it be safe (can I switch it back and forth) and would it possibly help with the hot swapping?

Well done ,young Innerpeace, break out the lemonade!!

The reason is that the Raid controller is active and correctly showing.
As I havent activated AHCI/RAID,two SATA storage controllers show up,one for each drive.

All the other Intel drivers are correct:thumb:

Yes and if you switch to AHCI ,HotSwapping should become enabled.
RAID mode is for when you are in a RAID disk array.

Good work- Looks like your driver worries are over.:)

Are you saying that using nLite the Matrix drivers wouldnt install from the CD, until you turned on RAID in the BIOS beforehand?

nLite is really a great app-so simple to use and well thought out.

Previously I had AHCI mode on the old system but switched off as I was getting some problems.

This time on the new Windows-I tried installing with ShadowProtect F6 mode, unsuccesfully.

Think its only a matter of perseverance.

Thanks, but I would prefer George Dickel #12 (white label) Tennessee whiskey ;). :p
Ok, that makes sense. Also, great to hear about the other drivers!!!
I will give the AHCI/hot swapping a try before I commit to anything. I'm beginning to feel some relief. Where in the world was all this info before I started the build LOL.
Yes, I tried it first with RAID mode set to IDE which didn't work. I then set to RAID and it worked. I didn't try setting RAID to AHCI. I can try it if you want. My BIOS also has the "On-chip SATA controller" which has always been enabled until you choose a RAID mode other than IDE.

-It looked like this in the BIOS on the first attempt.
    PCI IDE BusMaster [Disabled]
    On-chip SATA Controller [Enabled]
Raid Mode [IDE] (other possible settings are Raid and AHCI)

-and this was the second attempt which worked!
    PCI IDE BusMaster [Disabled]
    Raid Mode [RAID]
Yes, I really like nLite and it looks to be as addictive as overclocking :D.

I agree with the perseverance. That and bunch of help from people that have experience and a ton of patience :). I never dreamed that all this was necessary to "get things right" as far Chipset drivers, eSATA and RAID was concerned. The folks that write the hardware manuals need to get with program!

    Thank you,

You wasn't content with putting the lid back on, you took the red pill and we showed you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

Let me clear up i should of mentioned more on before. When you installing the RAID or AHCI you first have to enable it in the BIOS for the drivers to see it and be able to install it. If it doesn't see it, or it won't install it and by then it be too late to install it after or it blue screen. When you enable AHCI or RAID in the BIOS and XP doesn't have the drivers it blue screens.

RAID and AHCI are similar they use the same controller so in windows they both listed under the storage controller. You can't enable write caching it's greyed out because AHCI uses own caching and NCQ. So forget about that it fine. I mentioned before because i use RAID and i got mixed up. The Matrix Console will give the drive info but you won't be able to change anything, it just for display for AHCI. The console lets you setup RAID arrays and write cache.

The SATA controller has three modes of operation:
    • IDE mode - no AHCI, no RAID
    • SATA mode (sometimes called AHCI mode) - AHCI enabled, no RAID - Hot Swappable
    • RAID mode - AHCI enabled, RAID enabled - Hot Swappable
You just turn AHCI in the BIOS as discussed and do steps 1 to 23. I even over simplified the steps. When i did that guide it was on ICH8R and the drivers at bottom. On newer drivers they might not be at the bottom together so check on the names. Single driver is what you want not multiple. It shouldn't turn off if the drivers are on XP to begin with. Don't overclock it why you installing it. You don't want extra problems until you get it right as you said.

Alternatively skip AHCI and go RAID 0 lol just kidding.

You got the RAID installed but there's nothing listed under it and no driver listed as AHCI under disk drives. It not running as AHCI. Hot Swap works instantly. You plug and unplug and it picks it up in a second. You don't need to try it, it ain't listed you not in AHCI. Change to AHCI in the BIOS. If you put both drivers on it should boot up and you see AHCI.

When you sorted it all out. Just take another image so you not lost any work! Roger and Out.

    that do lol

You got it lucky, seriously it only in last few years m/b manuals have got pictures and a bit more helpful info.

I have a question for any of you helping with this thread.
I've been following the thread with a lot of interest because I've been building a new pc.
I picked up some decent parts, including a Core2 Duo cpu and a GA-EP35-DS3R.
Fortunately I caught some good deals on the prices.

The MB handles RAID via the ICH9R chipset.
And that's where my problem is coming from.
At this time, I have only 1 hard drive. It's a SATA drive. I might want RAID at a later date, but not for quite a while.
    And a SATA optical drive.
The more I read the intructions the more lost I get.
I have a bunch of SATA connectors of all different colors. Whoopee.
But not one clearly written short paragraph that explains where I should connect the hard drive and the optical drive.
And what, if anything, I should enable or disable in the Bios.
So hopefully one of you can help with this.

And perhaps the people that write the instruction manuals could be granted the ability to KISS!
    Thanks.

    Hugger,

    Good board:thumb: :thumb:

Both can be connected to the brown SATA connectors, not the special purple GSATA connectors.

    To get technical

As your mobo has ICH9R(Intel RAID)capability,in future if you want to run RAID,you will be able to use either the Intel Raid ICH9R Controller or the Gigabyte RAID controller, using their two purple connectors.
Thats assuming you will only run two HDDs in RAID array-otherwise you have to choose Intel.
    Apparently performance would be similar.

Both, the integrated ICH9R controller as well as Gigabyte SATA2 chip, allow creating RAID 0 and 1 arrays. ICH9R also supports RAID 0+1 and 5 arrays.

Good luck, the manual isnt very helpful really

Figured you would like the mountain stuff-probably brewed in your garage- all smoke and gurgles:D

Got AHCI working perfectly and I can confirm that Hot Swapping does work -so just switch over.

I used another installation method again, which worked well, but you were spot on re enabling BIOS as required, prior to other work.

Cant really see any appreciable performance advantages yet,but marky did say this!

    markymoo

They dont seem to be written for people outside the factory-only a guide for the factory assemblers ,written by the technical tea lady :)

    Hairy,
    Thanks for the help.
Am I correct in assuming that my eSATA connectors can also be hooked into the brown/yellowish SATA connectors?
And also that at this time I need not worry about playing with the BIOS until such time as it becomes necessary?
    Regards.

    Hugger,

    Yes,thats right

If everything is working OK-like your USB devices, that is correct. :thumb:
