It seems that a few people have received notification regarding the new version, and have installed it. Most of us have not heard a word.

Have any of you guys received an email about PP Version 4?

Good news! We've just released version 4 of PestPatrol, and it's packed with new features we know you'll appreciate, including a more robust scan engine and new update functions.

Within the next few days, registered customers will receive upgrade instructions via e-mail. If you are using an evaluation version of PestPatrol, you'll also receive information on how to upgrade.

PestPatrol v4 is the most up-to-date weapon in the war against invasive and destructive pests. We appreciate your continued support, and are confident you'll enjoy the new version.

Thank you for being patient whilst we finalized this version.

    Best regards,
PestPatrol Research, Development & Support Team

The "ad" for PP version 4 is still on their site: http://pestpatrol.com/default.asp Are you blocking ads or images or ??

I have read that a couple of people got it early last week, but haven't seen anyone report anything since. I have not heard a word.

For those of you who read my earlier post before I edited it...

My firewall blocked the PP 4.0 announcement, thinking it was an ad.

The PP representative who sent the 10/23/02 message was SMelendy, NOT Shirlz.

I apologize to Shirlz for my inept and misleading post.

    Mea culpa,
    bellgamin

Apology accepted....and most importantly bellgamin, you were referring to a message that was created on September 13th, not October 23rd!!! When help desk calls are closed, the original solution is resent as the closure message.

PestPatrol version 4.0 is in production, anyone who purchases from PestPatrol or one of our re-sellers will receive a download of version 4.0

E-Mail notification is being sent out to customers with upgrade instructions. The upgrade will not be done through the 3.2 PPUpdater, as version 4.0 is a complete rebuild.

    Shirlz,

While on the subject: could you please enlighten us in regard to PestPatrol v4.0 targetting SpyBot S&D? Read the full story here.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Another example of PP very poor customer support.

They haven't put this info in their forum (where folks are looking for info) but instead put this on their main page: http://pestpatrol.com/default.asp

    Important Upgrade Notice
We are in the process of sending e-mails to all registered PestPatrol 3.x customers, explaining how to upgrade to version 4. We expect to complete this process by November 15th, 2002. We appreciate your patience, and rest assured this short wait will not put your system security at risk.

Let's see, they have not updated the 3.x definitions since September 11 (or was it Sept 12?) and this is not a security risk. Arrggg!!!

I received an e-mail and downloaded version 4 today, free because I have had the license under 12 months. The interface is better looking, although there doesn't seem to be an option for setting up automatic downloads, i guess you could use the Windows sheduler.

I have no idea if the trojan detection is stronger as claimed, I am no techie. I bought the programme because at the time it was rated very highly here. I'll see how it rates when my license runs out before I decide whether I want to renew. I have KAV Pro as well and that's supposed to be a pretty good anti trojan in itself so I guess I have pretty adequate protection if not the best :)

The message I referred to IS dated 10/23 [I still have it].

Note also -- support was requested of PP on 9/13, but not responded to until 10/23.

I too am eager to see PP's reply to Paul's question.

First and foremost: In case I do ask a question, my aim is not bashing a security software product - on the contrary: improving is the ultimate goal. This for the record.

As for my question: as it seems, Safersite/PP is no longer targetting the software mentioned, as has been confirmed to the author.

Nevertheless, a confirmation from this over here would be nice and appreciated - though not especially necessary IMHO.

    regards.

It sounds like the detection issue regarding Pest Patrol's detection of Spybot has been resolved? That's good.Because I think that a number of competing companies are trying to fight spyware and they are on the same team in some fashion. The common goal is a good one! While I have my favorite Spyware removal program,I wish all of these companies success and all the best.I don't have to look back very far in my experience to remember what the internet can be like without this type of program.(spyware removers).

    Ashak,

Since KAV does a far more better job in coping with trojans/backdoors: I'm not surprised ;).

I have removed PP version 4 from my system. I don't plan to report this to the PP folks, as it's just not worth my time. I have been putting up with their BS for too long.

I kept PP as a backup to other malware detection software. I foolishly renewed my license recently.

I'm very patient and do know that all programs have problems, from time to time. With PP, you report problems to their forum, and they may respond within days, or they may just delete your post. Last time I reported a problem directly to tech support, via an email, they wasted days of my time with useless crap. The problem was never solved, and many had the same problem. They finally said that the problem would be fixed with Version 4.

Many of us had a problem with SpyBot S&D today. The problem was fixed and an update was issued within an hour or so. SpyBot S&D is a free program.

I paid for Pest Patrol and as as paying customer, I expect more support than is being provided. A buggy program, that is not supported by the manufacturer is a waste of my time.

I see I'm not the only one..

I bought Pest Patrol in May as a bundle with ZAPRO.. Emails I sent them NEVER got answered ( I can't remember what it was about, I think it was about the ppupdater), and I just got tired of the crapola, uninstalled it and replaced with adaware. Now they send me a letter last week about version 4. WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM? They have to "start " notifying their customers? Why don't they just do it? Why do these people handle their company like this? Like they try to hide from their customers? Jeez, I still haven't gotten an email about how to get the "New Improved" version. Maybe I should just stay away and buy TrojanHunter.....

    Straight Shooter,

Trojan Hunter is a great program with great support. As I said earlier in this thread, I kept PP around (after I had purchased TH) as a backup to other software. I did remove the program, did not bother to send them an email, and don't miss it.

I miss PP like I miss the rash I had earlier this year due to an extreme allergic reaction to Poison Ivy exposure.
