You might want to remember that no bug fixes also means no security patches.

Personally, I would not take the risk of using an outdated firewall, which is the front line of your machines security.

I know but I wonder if updating is still needed.

I doubt they are updating Outpost and it seems to be working fine.

Oh well, I only have it on one computer. I'll keep looking.

I have Zone Alarm FREE on 2 Win 10 Computers and it seems fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

That is probably your best choice other than Comodo. You're welcome

PC Tools FW...fine and light in resources firewall based on Look'n'Stop engine with quite powerfull HIPS module that scored 97% in Matousec's tests few years ago. I think it's still worth to consider :)

That is only related to the ZA with the AV component. They must have messed up with the website or just been lazy and copied the same text all over. :argh:

They should have said instead for firewall only ZA:
ZoneAlarm 2017 firewall is not compatible with any other firewall software.
To install ZoneAlarm 2017 firewall, you must first uninstall other firewall software. Otherwise, you may experience OS stability and computer performance issues ;)

Well, if they're sloppy with their website they might also be sloppy with the software.

But in any case, their AV wouldn't be compatible with Windows Defender, would it??

Well, windows defender (under windows 10) by default disable itself if it detects any other AV.
So I am not sure that sentence too make sense at all. :)

Perhaps you're not reading it correctly?

Have another read - "ZoneAlarm 2017 is only compatible with MS Windows Defender, and is not compatible with any other firewall software."

Ah, there you go, I copied your mis-quote.

ZoneAlarm is my favorite. I bought av plus fw for 10 bucks at their site. I loved it. It is a lot lighter than it used to.

    @jadinolf

Some things to note on PC Tools Firewall Plus 7.0

Might want to check any database exploits on the app.
The program installs Alternate Data Streams (ADS) in application directory. (Windows OS)
(ADS are not visable in Explorer nor are their size reported by Windows)

For better security go into Settings tab -> General -> and UNCHECK automatically allow
applications with valid signatures and automatically allow known application boxes.
NOTE: You will get more popups so one needs to know how to answer them correctly.

The default settings for Applications allows to much IMO. I would change to ask for IN/OUT
for accessing the network and under each application click on it to see advanced settings
then click on the ESP tab then click under action and select Prompt for permissions.
NOTE: Same as before with more popups so again knowledge is needed to answer them correctly.

Can also set a password for protection in Password tab and UNCHECK the box check for updates
    automatically in the Preferences tab.

NOTE: Setting password protection also gives popups & requires you to enter your password.

IMPORTANT: Make a system image backup before installing & making changes to the default settings.
