Hi, my USB mobile hardisk partition was accidently deleted and recreated but when I realized it, it was too late. I didn't perform format. I sent it for repair. The data was recovery but they are grouped in different category such as if it is excel file, it will be saved to DIR0.XLS. If it is word file, it will be saved to DIR12.DOC. If it is WINZIP file, it will be saved to DIR23.ZIP, etc. I was told the partition table was damaged, thus all recovery data lost its original filename and location. Can any expert help on it as I still believe if the data can be recovery, there is a chance to repair partion table.

If you sent the drive out for recovery and that's what they told you, then it's probably the case. If these files are important to you, then I'd just be glad to get them back.

If the FAT was written over or corrupted, then the filenames would be lost or corrupted. The recovery probably scanned the drive, sector by sector and found the files, giving them names as it went.

As far as I know, DD will only recover the "last" deleted partition from the unallocated space. In your case, that would be the current partition you have because you'd have to delete it before running the wizard.
