I want to save only the C: partition of drive1 to a .tib file on drive2 since the D: partition on drive1 is just a backup partition. Then if drive1 fails, restore the .tib file from drive2 to a new hard drive and have it be a bootable winXP system. Is this possible using TI-8?

    ----------------

    CONFIGURATION:
    Drive1:
    C: WinXP
    D: Backup the E: partition.

    Drive2:
    E: Data
    F: Backup the C: partition.

Partition D: is a large partition and can hold many .tib backups of the E: partition. Partition F: is a large partition and can hold many .tib backups of the C: partition.

    Hi, Skyhawk

Yes, but you may well be required to repair the MBR to make it bootable.

Because Ti8 does not, as you know back up the MBR by default like Ti9 & 10 does.

    Take Care,

Did not know that. Even with TI9 and 10, backing up only the C: partition but not the D: partition, do they automatically modify the MBR so a restore of only the C: partition on a new hard drive can work? Or does the MBR still expect to have two partitions on the new hard drive?

    Thanks,
    Skyhawk

    Hello Skyhawk,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please notice that with your disk setup it will be fine to restore only system partition along with MBR.

    Thank you.

    Hello Skyhawk,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please be aware that Acronis True Image 8.0 Home backs up MBR only when a full drive image is created. Backing up MBR along with any partition image was implemented only starting from late builds of Acronis True Image 9.0. You can however fix the MBR after restoration. Please see Acronis Help Post for more details.

    Thank you.
