I have a Dell Studio XPS 9100 computer with Windows 7 Prof (SP1). Very recently I upgraded my Paragon Backup & Recovery 11 Home to Ver 12.

When purchasing Ver 11, I was able to make the WinPE-based Recovery Media. For Ver 12, I was able to make a Recovery Media, but it is based on the Linux/DOS Recovery format.

    Questions:
    1. Is the Linux/DOS Recovery Media adequate when compared to the WinPE Recovery Media?

    2. Can I use the WinPE Recovery Media made with Ver 11, when making a computer recovery using Image backups made with Ver 12 instead of Ver 11?

Appreciate any help or clarification. Thanks Sam.

    1. Paragon has always had 2 recovery media, Linux and WinPE, Linux is created from the Windows Installation and the WinPE (which requires WAIK to be installed) is created from the boot media builder installation. Attached is a Link to where the guide to create that WinPE is posted https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2134427. The biggest difference b/n the 2 is linux is hard coded for support and WinPE is customizable.

    2. to answer your other question, the software is always backward compatible (you can restore images made from previous builds with any newer product), but is not forward compatible (restoring a BR12 image with the BR11 recovery media.

Uh ... assistance? Could you provide a table versions compatibility? I know it exists)
Just from my own experience i see, as DB12 understands the images created db11 and vice versa. (although like such and shouldn't be, and is not declared)
    Excuse my English

    If I understand correctly:

Paragon is not unlike other software. It maintains some level of backwards compatibility and does not guarantee forward compatibility. Matt Spathes has stated the backwards compatibility is for all versions which is nice.

Forward compatibility uncertainty makes sense because future format requirements are unknown when the older product is produced but the newer product can be engineered to accommodate the older formats.

Sometimes the format for a new version does not change and the old version tools will work with it.

Even though backwards compatibility exists, it is always good practice to maintain a copy of the Recovery CD for any version you still have archives for.

What seek said, and just to that point there are many other competitors out there, that actually don't support backward compatibility.
