I was advised in an e-mail from Panda to download the new version above (5.01.00), download an uninstaller to remove version 5.00.00, and then install the new version. This I did, but my security setting is now Low instead of High, and the error shown on the main interface is that a self-protection component did not load. The solution suggested is to reboot, and if this does not work, to reinstall the software.

I have done this without solving the problem. I have also uninstalled 5.01.00 completely and tried installing a freshly downloaded copy of this program - same result.

Previously version 5.00.00 worked fine, and it was only when the signatures for November 3 did not download and install automatically that I raised the query with Panda. Today's signatures have downloaded automatically, but the Low level of security persists.

Has anyone else had this problem please, and if yes, found out how to resolve it?

Windows XP Home, with all up-to-date Microsoft Critical Security updates installed. I too have Ewido 3.5 and Process Guard (Full Version).

    Ok.

    - Uninstall Panda & reboot your computer.

    - Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administration > Services
Look for any Panda related services currently running and delete them.

    - If you can't find any services, reinstall Panda, reboot and look at the services again.
Make sure that any Panda related services are running.

Does he need to do anything with Ewido or PG like temporarily disable before installing Panda?

Thanks for the information. It may be tomorrow (Sunday) before I can do what you kindly suggest, but I will report back then.

Forgot to say that I always disable PG and Ewido before either installing or uninstalling programs

I suggest disabling both of them - Any software that 'could' mess up the installation should always be disabled.

I uninstalled Panda again this morning, having first disabled every program on the taskbar as before. I checked with Ewido processes tab, before disabling it again, and nothing was running for Panda. I then ran RegVac (registry cleaner from www.superwin.com) but it found nothing remaining for Panda. I then ran Norton WinDoctor from the NSW 2003 CD I have as I have no Symantec products installed - again nothing. Then I reinstalled version 5.01.00, downloaded all the signatures, and the protection is still Low because the self-protection component hasn't loaded.

I also looked at the Downloads Area of Panda beforehand in case a new later version had been issued, but it is still shown as 5.01.00 issued on October 19.

The problem appears to be with the new software, which finds and removes spyware, updates and says there are no viruses or other threats in my PC after a scan, but it is frustrating to have dropped from High to Low on an update.

I did have a look at Services yesterday, but left well alone as this was over my head.

The problem appears to have been solved by totally uninstalling Panda Tiatnium 5.01.00, reinstalling version 5.00.00 and downloading all of the available virus signatures. My protection is now shown as 'High'.

panda has excellent heuristics, their TruPrevent is super.

everything else is poor or non existant, avoid!

also this software will drag down your system and surfing speeds.

detection is 'OK' and scan speed is fast

they will probably make more money selling on their TruPrevent service to other vendors. :D haha
