Well, considering I only installed Panda Free on my Win 7 machine yesterday, this is a bit of a shock. I don't seem to be affected fortunately.

I did have the 'Ask before neutralising a virus' checked though, as a precaution. By default Panda quarantines anything suspicious.

Correct, as it's only effecting office versions I believe.

No, it's also affecting the FREE (home user) version.

It was a dodgy signature update that caused this apparently. Earlier today I noticed that there seemed like a lag in definition updates. As my computer has been in sleep mode for a while I must have missed the bad updates. The lag was very probably Panda fixing the signature update.

Panda anti-virus labels itself as malware, then borks EVERYTHING
Spanish security firm in baffling tail-chasing auto-immune kerfuffle
    11 Mar 2015 at 16:52, John Leyden
Panda users had a bad hair day on Wednesday, after the Spanish security software firm released an update that classified components of its own technology as malign.

As a result, enterprise PCs running the anti-virus software tied themselves in something of a knot, leaving some systems either unstable or unable to access the internet.

    Ouch.

    Panda is a slow animal.

But it does poop a lot.

And today, it took a big 'ole dump on its customers.

When you bring your enterprise customers to a standstill... business stops, money is lost.

    Ouch.

I'm really glad this hasn't affected me with Panda Free. Panda say that the faulty signature file was unpublished a while ago, so if you aren't affected with the false positives you should be OK now. I had stayed with MSE for quite a while because of borkfests like this. I remember Panda Cloud Free when it was first released. It was incredibly light on my old notebook but even then suffered from false-positives. Considering I have only been using Panda for two days on Win 7 I think I've escaped by the skin of my teeth. :doubt:

I rushed and called family told them not to reboot or keep PC off if they haven't been on it in the last day.

I think rebooting is OK if Panda didn't find anything or quarantine any suspected malware.

I too am having the same problem. Every program I open gives me either a system error or bad image error. Even did a system restore with no luck.

And I restarted my computer before I got the message about the issue being caused by Panda. Hopefully that didn't mess up my computer.

Hopefully they are in panda's quarantine and you can restore them from there. Or wait for their fix that will be published here: http://www.pandasecurity.com/uk/homeusers/support/card?id=100045
    Latest update:
    • UPDATE - Wednesday, 21:20 (CET)
The solution which restores the quarantined files has been automatically deployed in all the affected products. We are working on on a tool to be installed on those computers which require a manual installation of the solution. We will update the information as soon as it is ready.
