Obviously it doesn't work since it left an icon in the control panel (perhaps a rare bug), so something must be wrong. :)

Maybe it's worth to contact panda about this issue ? It looks like setup specific problem; if you could replicate this behavior they could fix that bug eventually (if they're not doing it already ;) ).

We're trying to reproduce it as this is the first report we've had of this issue. In the meantime you can manually delete the file PSUNCpl.cpl from %SYSTEM32% directory to get rid of the icon.

I solved the issue by uninstalling through some official uninstaller I downloaded. But the bundled uninstaller which I got with PCAV failed to remove the icon from control panel.

Will we see PCAV in native x64 some time in the future? I hate to run processes under *32. :)

Why do you even want several recycle bins? I think one single virus vault (like in AVG, Avira, Avast) would be the best idea. I don't want to search for files in several bins and places ... :doubt:

As Ibrad said, we'll revisit the Recycle Bin after 1.1 to make it much simpler and unified.

Even though we have had some internal builds that correct the bugs that have been reported, we're working on getting a stable release soon instead of additional beta builds.

Re native x64, not for 1.1, maybe later. It's not really a problem anyway.

    @ Pedro.

Have you been able to reproduce the conflict with sandboxie?

Nice interview. Thanks for the link.

How is everyone's CPU time with version 1.1? I like this program but every time I have tried it, I found it uses a lot of CPU, even after it's initial getting to know your PC period.

That's not supposed to happen. Are you working on your PC at the same time you see CPU usage or are you just letting it sit there? I mention this as PCAV will use periods of PC inactivity to do some background scans.

Hi Pedro - I have tried the program 6-8 times on two different PCs(mostly ver 1). I usually install it, leave it be for a hour or so to let it do it's thing. Then I reboot hoping to get a clean slate to see how much CPU it will use, but the reboot seems to trigger a fresh round of scanning/high CPU use.

I really like the GUI and potential of the program, so I was planning on waiting until the next build of 1.1 comes out, and trying it again. But in my experience so far, there are a handful of programs that I find lighter in terms of CPU and Ram usage.

I believe I have the same issue with one of my computers. PCAVs "getting to know your computer" seems to reset after each reboot because PCAV gets utterly slow again. Fingerprinting does not seem to work at all.

This happens with the current beta?
Do you have something else happening in the background (scheduled defrags, other apps doing things, etc.?).

You might want to start a procmon and monitor the activity to see what is triggering PCAV to scan items. It shouldn't be scanning anything unless files and objects are being opened by someone or some app (except background scan after install of course).

I do not really know. It could just be my imagination. But when doing on-demand scans, does PCAV remember previously scanned files and their hash (those who are whitelisted) and skip them during scan?

Yes it does, but there are some advanced rules as to when to re-scan even if items are in the cache (digital sigs, heuristic detections, re-classifications from the cloud, etc.). But in the majority of the cases it skips previously scanned items which are deemed safe.

As an example, c't mag in germany just published a comparative review of free AVs, and it says this about the on-demand scanning speed of PCAV:

    First scan: 16MB/s
    Speedup of second scan: 90%
