I tried it about 2 yrs ago, it came with Time Warner. I cant find any sign of it unless something is buried deep in the registry.

Do you mean this evaluation edition is Panda Antivirus Platinum 7, not Panda Platinum 2006 Internet Security? If so, I will give up. Panda Antivirus Platinum 7 is a version of 2004.
Panda Platinum 2006 Internet Security 10.03.00...now
Panda Platinum 2005 Internet Security 9
    Panda Platinum Internet Security v8.0.0
    Panda Antivirus Platinum 7.04.00

Can someone tell me how the Panda IS compares to Oupost+Nod32? I'm currently trialling Outpost and Nod32 after moving from NAV+ZonealarmPro.

The OP+nod32 combo has notably sped up my surfing speeds and was wondering what if any impact the PIS has on performance. I've been reading reviews and it appears that PIS may be a 800lb gorilla when it comes to using system resources. I know that OP+Nod32 is pretty light on my system and works well together from that I've seen over the past two weeks of use.

I did download the freebie and have a 1 yr registration, I'm just wondering if its worth the effort, (besides the argument of being free) to use PIS or just pay for the OP and Nod32 packages. I'm not one to use free software when it comes to security as I strongly believe you get what you pay for, and I'd rather be safe.

    thanks

Which version this Panda evaluation edition is? I have not activate the code so I don't know.
Some body said it is Panda 2007. I don't think Panda Platinum 2007 has been released. If it is Panda Internet Security 2007, it shall not include TrePrevent. Panda Platinum 2007 and Panda Internet Security 2007 are different things.
In the web site they said: "you will receive an email with an activation code and a link to register and download your copy of Platinum Internet Security."

In the Feb AV Comparatives test Panda did not even get the Advanced rating. I don't think it performed well enough for me to install it. I did not do as well as Avast and AVG.

I did get the license for 1 year. It is hard to resist a freebie. However, since I also have a 1 year trial of F-Secure, I doubt I will do anything with Panda.

I do not notice that many here use it.

you need to do some more checking around, panda does have a good detection rate. people need to quit putting so much faith in these test sites. The tests are subjective and do not necessarily depict what happens in real life. If you are going to use them you need to check several sites and try and get a good average score on a particular product.

Since I do not visit bad sites and get infected, I have no way to evaluate an AV. My impression, possibly incorrect, is that AVC is one of the most objective test sites. I would like to be able to make evaluations based upon the best evidence available. It seems that most tests are criticized as being biased due to advertisers, etc.

Since I think that AVC is unbiased it has a big influence on my selection of an AV. If other test organizations have somewhat different results, then I am interested, and would consider the data. Otherwise AVC is the best, unless one thinks their methodology is flawed.

Even if the specific percentages shown by AVC are not perfectly accurate, they do give a comparison between the various AVs. When compared with other tested AVs Panda shows poorly.

When one test gives significantly different results one has to decide which he believes.

So what are some other test sites that you consider in the same class as AVC from an objective viewpoint.

    Regards,
    Jerry

    @woobook

The promo is for Panda Internet Security 2006 v10.03. When you register it,
you'll get an activation code and a website address. Don't do anything now!
When your Titanium license will expire then open the e-mail and go to the
website. The moment you enter the activation code, your license will start
from then and you'll get the usual username and password.

    @Mongol

When you get the warning about eTrust EZ, don't switch it off. Instead, go
    to c:\documents and settings\your-username\local settings\temp. Here you
will find some folders with weird numbers and alphabets. Open them and
search which contains the installation files. Look for AVDETECT.INI and open
it. Do a string search for "eTrust EZ". You'll find the registry entries which
are creating the problem. Just search for all of them and delete them. You
may not find all of them but whichever you find, delete them. Now close the
warning box and restart the installation.

Welcome. BTW I'm checking it on my PC, its slower than F-Secure!!!

I think i'll go back to F-Secure and the XP firewall.

Well, I did some cleaning up and again installed Panda Platinum. Now the
damn thing is working like a charm. I'll never understand computers :-(

Panda is always better than TMIS.

I will have to disagree that panda is better than TMIS. I have used every version of panda for years and the same with TMIS and from the experience I have had with the two I will take TMIS over panda anyday.

Hmmm..... our opinions are different. But thats why there are so many
products surviving in the market. What suits me doesn't suit another person.
I respect that. If used wisely TMIS and eTrust EZ are good options too.

    I don't think so.

TMIS has a bad engine...It is always show me a warning that virus found in the system, but it can never clean virus.

In fact that pcc still need to use sysclean tool to clean virus....:gack:

Trend does clean viruses, but it uses Sysclean and Damage Control Services for cleaning registry entries for malware. Very bad IMO, because even though DCS is automatically run by PC-cillin every time malware is detected, one has to manually update DCS as it is not updated by regular automatic updates (at least that was the case when I used it).

A-HA Found the key and thanks for the info. Hard to believe one tiny little key from a long uninstalled program can cause this hang-up...cheers:thumb:

Although it might be silly , Panda (or any other AV) wants to be absolutely sure there is no other AV installed and that's why you see the alert :)
