Looks like this site has been down for several days now with no word as to the reason. I am using ZA pro right now and have been trying out Outpost on a test machine (that does not have hyperthreading), but was thinking of buying outpost, however, the fact that their site has been down for several days gives me GREAT hesitation. If agnitum can't even keep their site up, or at the very least communicate why it's been down for so long to their user base, how does that "philosophy" carry over into their outpost product? I like outpost but am hesitant also to install it on one of my laptops which use hyperthreading (don't want to install/uninstall too much crap on my good machine) and i've read that even though outpost claims the hyperthreading issue has been fixed with 2.1, i still see people saying it's not working for them on these forums. I really do like outpost though, the realtime ip monitoring and log viewing is great, as are the plugins (though only displaying time and not the date as well i would consider bad design), and most of all its low footprint With that said, how am i to trust a firewall developer if they can't keep their own "playground" open and truly fix things when they've said they've fixed things?
Hi diesel, The server hosting agnitum.com suffered a major crash. As far as I know, it was hardware related. E-mail was also affected.
Both Agnitum's site and the forums are UP at the moment. To diesel: Whatever Agnitum's server difficulties were this week, I don't believe it is a reflection on the product per se. I'm a longtime satisfied user and am convinced that the minor issues I've had with the firewall (none of which compromise my security) are no worse than the potential issues with other firewalls. Furthermore, the help I've received on the Outpost forums site alone has been worth the price of the product.
I fully agree. Severe server issues can be very difficult to handle at times, and there's no reflection on the software quality for that reason. IMHO the OutPost forums are high standard indeed. Many other software vendors most probbly envy the support provided over there. Thumbs up as far as I'm concerned . regards. paul
