So what's your take on this, is it really an improvement? Can't believe they still don't offer tabs on bottom, this should be a basic feature, but currently only Vivaldi offers this. I don't know which idiot decided that tabs should always be on top of the screen. I think it started with IE, who else can come up with these dumb idea's.

I think it's logical because menu, address bar, window options etc. are all on top and it pays for all Win apps not only for browsers. I for one don't see a benefit to have them on bottom and definitely I don't rate a browser based on this option.

so, can someone tell me why one should choose opera portable by portableapps.com over official opera portable?

I also don't only rate a browser on this, trust me. But it's something that should be left up the user preference. So at least give this option. But anyway, you didn't answer the question. Is the new Opera an improvement, and if so, can you name some of them?

For the time being I know only what is available also to you (blog post) because I'm using only stable releases of Opera but as I like minimalist design, not limited to browsers only, I may love it.

Though I don't know what I can expect from it.

In a browser GUI and visive options are important features. You don't see.... and then ? Many users, here too, see the benefit and the pleasure and the usefulness to have them on the bottom. We are different, people are different. Opera developers have not real reasons to not do it except stubbornness.

Maybe, I don't know, you can ask them. But you completely missed my point, intentionally or not. I referred to the fact that Windows OS UI is build on having the main control, commands etc. on the top, so developers of whatever software are following the standard, nothing more nothing less. I understand you want it on the bottom, OK why not, it's your choice but this is not the standard and hence you cannot be ugly that the mainstream product doesn't contain non standard things. Luckily for you, you have plenty of other options like Vivaldi etc.

I read this, but I didn't consider it as a valid matter, because Microsoft notoriously don't care the user needs in his standard, but only what is good for it. Opera's developers have the right to do what they want, but don't let the choice top/bottom is irrational and inexplicable.

OK, I see. BTW, about the "tabs on bottom" discussion, the thing is: On Windows, the Task-bar is also in bottom of screen. I only move my mouse to the top when I type something in the browser's address-bar. Navigating back and forward is done via mouse gestures. So you could say it would make sense to at least give an option to change the tab-bar position. That's why I think developers of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera, are all pretty dumb.
