one problem i found; 'web capture' doesn't work into ConnectedText.

well, it works somewhat but all i'm left with is plain text; no formatting, no images, no hyperlinks.
    just plain text.

perhaps someone with another note taking app/utility can verify this with Opera.

Did they improve the memory usage in this version? I'm seeing fewer alerts from AVG Advisor regarding memory usage since installing this version.

    I'm trying it now...

How do you bring up a new blank Tab? I get the Speed Dial.

I don't see an option in the Tab preferences.

    thanks,

I don't have "Window" on my menu.

    opera_menu.gif

For now, I've assigned a blank tab to one of the Speed Dials.

OK, thanks! So, it's a manual click to bring up a blank tab?

Is there a keyboard shortcut for that?

I guess I'll just create one in the keyboard.ini file.

by the way, those .ini files are now stored in the UI directory. I had to search to find them!

Another problem: I checked "single user" to get my Opera profiles on my D partition, and it did so. However, Opera is storing the cache on C:\...[user]\application data...

How to get the cache to write to my Opera Directory on D?

I've never had that problem before.

    thanks,

For the shortcut, I don't know. Perhaps you can ask in the Opera Community forum.

As to the other, where you have your Opera profile stored, I also can't help. Sorry.

    I am still running XP.

I found something that may help, http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1419482

By Pesala - "Or drag an existing tab to the Windows Taskbar or add a new shortcut to do the same, e.g.:

    Shift F10 = Detach page"

Hi Rmus, you can add to "operaprefs_default.ini" file (in Opera program folder):

    Opera Directory=D:\<YourPath>\Opera\%username%
    Opera Local Directory=D:\<YourPath>\Opera\%username%

Local Directory - is where cache and mail is at.
Opera Directory - is where all your preferences, contacts and passwords are at.

You can add the New page button to your toolbar in the standard_toolbar.ini file (see button 8 below).
(Or much easier go here find the button you want under 'Paste and Go' and just drag it to the toolbar.)

    [Browser Toolbar.content]
    Button0, -4062831=Open document
    Button1, -1001150226=Save document
    Button2, 880020204=Print document
    Button3, 197832810=Find

    Button8, "New page"="New page, 1 & Go to page, "opera:blank" + New page & Paste and go & Show popup menu, "-""
    Button9, -1706951539=Tile vertically
    Button10, -1635182269=Cascade

    Button13="Content block mode on, , , -412899669, "Blocked" + Content block details & Show popup menu, "-""
    Button14, "Kill"="Go to page, "javascript:var b=new Array();var c=1;var o=((document.onkeydown==null)||(o==2))?0:1;document.onkeydown=ck;z=document.getElementsByTagName('*');for(i=0;i<z.length;i++){if(z.tagName.search(/(HTML|BODY)/i)==-1){z.onclick=function(e){t=this;if(window.event) e=window.event;if((t==e.target)||(window.event)) t.parentNode.removeChild(t);if(window.opera) e.stopPropagation();return false;};z.onmouseover=function(){if(!c)return;c=0;t=this;b[t]=t.style.backgroundColor;t.style.background='#FF9999';};void(z.onmouseout=function(){t=this;t.style.backgroundColor=b[t];c=1;});}}function ck(e){k=window.event?window.event.keyCode:e.keyCode;if((k==27)||o){o=2;document.onkeydown=null;for(i=0;i<z.length;i++){if(z.tagName.search(/(HTML|BODY)/i)==-1){z.onclick=null;z.onmouseover=null;z.onmouseout=null;z.style.backgroundColor=b[t];}}}}if(o==1) ck(1);", 1, "Kill", "Mark as spam""

Button16, -512239998=Enable mediumscreen mode | Disable mediumscreen mode
    Button17, "InFx"="Execute program, "firefox", "%u", "InFx", "InFx""
    etc....

Additional info.. Use Opera without a mouse for keyboard fans.

If you want a keyboard shortcut for the follower tab, have a look here
Action code to create follower tab:-
    Create linked window

Other non keyboard method is to r/click on a tab and select Create Follower Tab.

To make your own buttons try Opera button creator here

To make a New Page button which is blank just like the Create Follower Tab using the Opera button creator linked to above is
very easy. I simply filled in the stuff shown in the pic ..

    button creator for new page.png

Then you will get this button.. better than the opera:blank tab one.

One thing the tutorial omits is that you can edit the standard_keyboard.ini file to remap the shortkeys.

For example, change "Ctrl + T" to just "T" to open a new Tab.

    --------------

EDIT: I see this tutorial links to another page that shows how to edit the shortcuts.

This is one of the great features for me in Opera -- the control the user has in configuring the shortcut keys to one's liking!

    regards,

Type opera:config in the address bar and search for "Cache Directory4". You will find the preferences for cache folders.

    Thanks, I'm aware of that.

But I shouldn't have to reconfigure the paths. With the installation I chose, all paths should point to my Opera Directory, but they don't.

Tamil on the Opera Forum suggested a fix, but meanwhile, I've uninstalled O12, since it's no faster than my O9 and uses 2x the memory. Not critical, but no improvement either.

So, no compelling reason to upgrade.

I may look later at a newer version.

    Thanks again for your suggestion.

Rmus, pursuing this maybe off-topic, but isn't RAM "usage" not really a concern unless other programs start slowing down? I got the impression that programs like to hog (or try to appropriate) more RAM than they actually need and that such programs release RAM that they were holding in reserve if a "genuine" claimant appears. (I'm assuming that there's no need to use swap.)

For this reason, right or wrong, I like to look more at %CPU usage as an indicator of a program's efficiency.

    Dammit! I've lost a favicon (again) ... o_O

It's always GMail. Maybe Opera's trying to get me to use its own mail. ;)

I'm still very impressed with the overall speed & responsiveness though, especially on my notebook.

I completely agree with you, and I have enough RAM so that this isn't a concern; I did add that it wasn't anything critical.

I mentioned it as one of a number of factors that people often list as reasons to upgrade. Memory usage sometimes is a hot topic of discussion!

I've often wondered if the lack of responsiveness recently with Firefox on my notebook is anything to do with its infamous memory loss. Unfortunately, mentioning this often does invoke trolls sometimes.

Is anyone else getting the 'Blerk! Error 5' tin can looking chap in AOL mail? Firefox opens AOL, but I keep getting the funny looking dustbin Blerk! in Opera.
