Hard to say, but with Opera, they usually release "when it's ready", so it could be a while longer yet. I am going to try the beta today myself...

Thanks, I'll download and give them a try next week when I'll no longer be stuck on dialup. :ouch:

Regarding Firefox, 3.5 is on the cusp of being released - have you tried it, and do your opinions of it being slow still hold?

Too late. Finally settled on opera 10. Spent a good few hours installing and fixing bookmarks last night. After 3-4 months of switching between chrome, ie, fx and opera, I think this is the one. Switched to keyscrambler pro also to cover it, I like this setup, thanks for the post. :thumb:

The release candidates should be arriving either this week or the next. IIRC, the official schedule slates 3.5 for release at the end of June.

There's also been multiple betas released, and they've all been rock-solid so far on my end.

There's a very noticeable performance boost on my end. I think you really need to give it a try before writing it off.

While I've stopped being a Firefox fan since version 3, there IS one thing I do like about the Mozilla guys: they're a very egotistical, competitive bunch, and hate their product to be inferior. If there's press about how someone else is trumping them, you can be sure they'll sit up, take notice, and do something about it. Mozilla allowed Firefox performance and memory leaks to languish, but enter Chrome and the throwing down of the metaphorical gauntlet, and now Firefox actually takes less than 10 seconds to start up from cold. w00t!

That's not saying much, Chrome starts here in about 1 second, and every other browser in existence starts up in less than 3. :)

It is when you compare it to the current stable versions of Fx. :D

Yes u hit the nail on its head.:thumb: :).10 seconds is still a long time, while windows takes 25 seconds to boot.Even the latest firefox(3.5) does not compete with opera or chrome as far as cold boot time is concerned.

Opera beta is still not stable ,as i am "losing" my profiles setting now and then.I am using the portable form of opera.

A tip I just discovered; just thought I'd share it for people who like portable apps.

Copy your Opera install folder to USB. On your USB, open the file "operaprefs_default.ini" in the Opera folder, and set "Multi User=1" to "=0". After this change, Opera will create and store its profile folder inside the installation folder itself, and you can now run Opera right from your USB.

On a similar note, is anyone aware of the Opera road-map being listed anywhere? In specific, I'd like to know the road-map to Beta 2.

    From the desktop blog faq:

"The Desktop Team generally does not disclose release dates."

That's as far as I got anyway. :doubt:
