Just started using Opera a few days ago. I got an error from my antivirus(ESET) about Firefox so I decided it was time to change. IMHO they have finally managed to ruin Firefox. I call it progressive bloat. This seems to happens to all programs that stay around long enough.

So far Opera seems to be working fine. It imported my Bookmarks from
Firefox. It imported my email from Thunderbird. I had to hand do my address
book as I couldn't figure out how to import them in Opera.
Are there 2 emails in Opera? I am using the email in Opera but I have no
    idea which one.
I HATE tabs. How can I completely get rid the function in Opera?
How can I get rid of the screen with circles on it? I have no use for something
    like that.
Otherwise it was easy to install and I am generally pleased. Thank you Opera programmers and please don't make the mistake the Firefox boys have done and add a lot of bloat.

I can help with getting rid of the circles on the speeddial page.

Go to your profile folder and find the file called "speeddial.ini".
Open that file and copy the following :

    Opera Preferences version 2.1
; Do not edit this file while Opera is running
; This file is stored in UTF-8 encoding

    [Background]
    Enabled=0

Finally, save the changes and you would see the circles anymore, just square boxes only (pun intended):D

    From Opera Tutorials

    http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/settings/

    Tabs
    -----
Opera can open several Web pages at one time. You can choose to use a separate window for every page, or to hold all pages in single window, and to use the tab bar to manage them. The behavior of the tabs is controlled through the dialog box Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Tabs. Click on Open windows instead of tabs if you want to disable tab functionality. By default the tab bars have close buttons. If you accidentally close a tab, it can be recovered by clicking on the trash icon on the right end of the tab bar.

I like Opera. It would be brilliant if it worked properly. If there is one thing that I have learnt about browsers it is that you can't have everything. SRWare Iron is the fastest browser I have ever used but it has its little quirks. Its adblocker is so aggresive it sometimes won't let you watch videos or slide-shows on some pages (it acts oddly in any Yahoo! page at times). K-Meleon is a great browser; fast, customisable & has a Privacy Bar that is truly inspired, yet its spell-checker is a bit odd & it has an older version of Gecko than Firefox/SeaMonkey. Speaking of which, I have problems with Ajax script in Fox-Monkey & I can't get the adblocker to filter where I live making these browsers relatively useless for me. Safari 4 is very clever but unless you are running it on the Starship Enterprise (or a Mac) it's a bit power hungry. As for IE 8, all I'll say is that it is better than IE 7. But, having said that, so is a poke in the bum with a forked stick.

Go to your Opera browser under Help -- About Opera, look at Paths section and there will give you your profile folder location as it is used.

    General Information :

Default folder locations for multi-user installations when using Windows XP
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. Main (installation) folder is likely 'C:\Program files\Opera\'

    2. Profile folders can likely be found at 'C:\Documents and settings\username\Application data\Opera\Opera\profile\' and 'C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Application data\Opera\Opera\profile\' (the latter are used by 9.5 installations for data not suited for inclusion in a roaming profile)

    3. Mail directory is likely either 'C:\Documents and settings\username\Application data\Opera\Opera\mail\' or 'C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Application data\Opera\Opera\mail\' depending on whether you started with 9.5 or an earlier Opera version.

Opera 10.50 RC for Windows (Build 3291)
    ---------------------------------------
You might have noticed that the 10.50 snapshots contain a lot more changes and fixes than usual. This is the result of our increased focus and has sped up the development process significantly.
Thanks to the hard work of the Opera engineers Opera 10.50 for Windows has now reached RC status.
We hope you like the new speed of development because we plan to work as hard to finalize 10.50 for Unix and Mac.

    Video seeking
This build build mainly includes stabilization fixes, but also a new feature in (html5) video: It's now possible to seek through videos that are not completely downloaded yet. If you skip forward in a video, Opera will adjust the download process so you don't have to download the part that you are not going see.

We will see a final release very soon:D

The new versions of opera always make the current opera and other browsers seem crap in comparison in looks, speed and features.
think ill wait until next snapshot not ready to upgrade my main opera yet.

A heads up about build 3291...
You will need to save your profile(bookmarks etc..) if you install this build. It's not an over-the-top update.

Good, cause RC1 gave me a blue screen lol. Other than that, all the versions have been relatively stable. I've sent a few bugs/screeshots through to opera support.

In this week we will get our lovely Opera. New versions of RC give me some reasons, to think that we can see final at any time (maybe even now:D) But it makes me happy...and upset (cause its still quite buggy)
    Anyway...im so excited;)

    Opera 10.50 Final?

Note: It's considered officially released only after being announced on www.opera.com

    Finally the final?

    ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1050/

If nothing else changes, this will be the final version. (Build 3296):p

I am using 10.10 build 1893 and i checked for updates using the in-built checker, but it says I am using the latest version:( Looks like I have to download it manually.

As for Opera, it's been my main browser for the last ~ 9-10 years. Wouldn't trade it in for anything. The pros far outweigh the cons..the stability, customizability, the speed, ease of use and mouse gestures...I can't adjust to any other browser after using Opera for so long.:D

v.10 was a major improvement over the relatively buggy 9.x, and if 10.5 is improved even further then I can't wait to get my dirty hands on it.. :p
