It doesn't. You have to save the username and password to a file and call it as a parameter.

How does one configure a VPN with openVPN on a dedicated server? I need to allow coworkers to access our network resources from outside of the building.

I guess this is not the right section where to post this question. Anyways, the openvpn manual is clear and easy to follow.

There is an unofficial version which I am using right now. You just put a text file called password.txt in the config folder, first line is username, second is the password.

I downloaded it from the perfect-privacy.com members area, but unfortunately they are down right now with a ddos attack and I think it's a password locked area anyway. I'm not sure where it is available elsewhere either.

I've uploaded the zipped installer using the very useful stashbox: http://stashbox.org/525324/openvpn-2.1_rc13-install.zip

Apparently it works with vista, but I'm using XP Pro.

Ok, ddos is over at PP, so here is the actual link to the latest fixed OpenVPN with password save enabled:

    http://www.mdex.de/mdex_fixed.ip_openvpn_w32_release.zip (for XP)

    and http://users.ntua.gr/abot/openvpn-2.1_rc13-install.exe (for vista/xp)

Here's the blog of the compiler: http://botsikas.blogspot.com/2008/10/building-openvpn-with-enable-password.html

Also, in addition to the password.txt file you need to 'edit the *.ovpn configuration file(s) and replace the "auth-user-pass" command with "auth-user-pass password.txt"'
