You can now download and install an old version of the open source Chromium browser directly from the Windows 10 Microsoft Store.

A publisher named 'Store Ports,' who ports free desktop applications to packages on the Microsoft Store, has published the open-source Chromium browser to the Microsoft Store.
As desktop applications are not allowed through the Microsoft Store, this is just a UWP wrapper for the desktop browser client. More concerning is that it was snuck past Microsoft reviewers who would normally block packages like this from being added to the Store.

Furthermore, as Italian Windows blog Aggiornamenti Lumia notes, it has historically been against Microsoft Store applications' policies to use rendering engines other than Microsoft Edge Classic's EdgeHTML.
Now that Microsoft has ported its Microsoft Edge browser to use the Chromium code-base, this policy may have changed.

While it is entertaining, and ironic, that Chromium has been published to the Microsoft Store, it should not be used.
With Chrome 84 released in July, the Microsoft Store version is an old version without numerous security updates for vulnerabilities.

Microsoft removes unofficial Chromium browser from the Store

On Friday, Windows users were in a for a surprise when one independent developer published the open-source Chromium browser on the Microsoft Store. The browser was unofficially ported to the Windows Store by a publisher named ‘Store Ports’.

Fortunately, Microsoft didn’t let the listing last very long, and took down the app just hours after it was flagged by users.
In a statement, Microsoft cited violation of its store policies as the reason for the removal of the unofficial port.

“This submission is not currently compliant with our Windows Store policies and is being corrected and will be removed,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

The availability of third-party browsers on the Windows store could potentially come in handy for people using Windows 10 in S Mode, but the current store policies do not allow browsers based on a third-party rendering engine and policies are unlikely to change anytime soon.
